I drive to school, and make short errands around town. I really need a job, because I didn’t even have enought to fill my tank ($35) was in my pocket. Now I’m broke and gas is still rising. I really, really need a job :p

Gasoline prices are ridiculous. It’s just going to keep going up.. I kind of expect it to now. Remember the days when it was 89 cents/gallon? I do.
Right now, I commute a half hour to school and a half hour back M-F.
Next fall though, I’ll be going to UCD which is less than 10 minutes from where I live.

i already gave up my car, but living in the city has made that easy. everything is within walking distance and if not theirs a bus. when i come home i have a best friend who if i spot a few bucks he takes me places and i have a mother who doesn’t let me pay her but will let me borrow her car anyways, so all in all for me, it has already happened.

BTW, i think it will be awesome when people decide to walk, maybe it won’t be “Fat America” anymore =]

Walking is nice in theory but I live 33 miles from work!

I for one am really excited about the rising gas prices and hope this yields a new generation of cleaner technology.

I’ll have the ride the bus. I hate the bus, I always end up with my ass half on the seat and half off, crammed on there with 2 other people.

I’m not going to be able to buy gas at all unless I get paid. But when I do get money I doubt I’ll buy gas any more expensive than $4.

I’m considering a motorcycle for by comutes back and forth to work

People will adjust their lifestyles to drive less. Maybe they’ll give up their 15 mpg SUVs in favor of 30–40 mpg compacts, maybe they’ll live closer to work. Life will go on.

(As for myself – the last time I bought gas was in January, and my car’s gas tank is still 3/4 full. Gotta love public transit.)

I’m already walking more which is good cuz I’m fat

I don’t have much an option to walk. I live 30 miles from my job, and know one at my job has my shift or lives near me for that matter so no car pulling.

I take public transportation and ride a bike. For those that say they don’t have this option: move to somewhere that you can, that’s what I did.

nikipedia's avatar

@peedub: This isn’t my situation (I have other reasons for not moving) but I think for many that’s easier said than done. For instance, in the Bay Area (where I think many people in this community live?) people who work in the city can’t necessarily afford to live there.

I know what your saying. What about public trans?

I’m not trying to play devil’s advocate, but I lived in Oakland and commuted to SF everyday for work. I also didn’t have kids, so didn’t have to have car.

I think public transportation in the Bay Area sucks hard. When I had to commute car-less to Palo Alto it took me 2 buses, 1 Caltrain, and a shuttle. All said and done it was about 2 hours door to door and cost something like $14. So even when public transportation is a possibility, it’s often so ridiculously inconvenient that it’s hard to fault people for not taking advantage of it.

That sounds sucky, hopefully it will improve. Do you know when the Bart is scheduled to be completed?

The fact that it doesn’t run very punctually does blow.

Well I have to drive over six hours to my work station. I drill for these natural resources

hit a record high of $112.00 barrell for oil this morning
