Why does Toll House tell me not to consume their raw cookie dough?
I’m a fatty and I did it anyways. I read the ingredients, no raw eggs. And it was DELICIOUS. I’ve done it before and haven’t gotten sick. Do they mean don’t eat the whole bucket? if I die soon, it was probably raw cookie dough related. Just know, fellow Jellies…. I liked some of you

There are no eggs in Toll House brand cookie dough? That’s amazing and hard to fathom.
The general rule is that you don’t eat raw cookie dough because it has eggs.
Because they want you save some for me! Did you eat it all? Where’s my share? Oh, god I can’t bear the thought that it’s all gone!!!
I’m having a hard time with the no eggs thing. Are you sure? Is there any way you can post the ingredients list? Nestle online is being really coy about what, exactly, is in that dough.
There is something in it obviously that they are afraid of you consuming and then getting food poisoning and suing their company. I have probably consumed several pounds of raw cookie dough in my lifetime, and was never sickened by it.

For legal reasons – should you get accidentally get salmonella poisoning (which is in things other than eggs) they really don’t want to be sued when they could have simply put a warning on there. But I think, eat away! After all, both cookie dough and cake batter are just soooo much better before you put them in the oven.
The company suddenly gained a conscience and they don’t want you to become a victim of the obesity epidemic now plaguing the entire country. (Not that you’re obese now. They just don’t want you to end up that way.)

That’s what happens with large scale food production. You tend to get eggs from factory farms, which are the ones that are most often disease-ridden and dirty.
If you make the dough yourself and you buy the eggs from local farms, you are very unlikely to get sick by consuming raw eggs. I think I had one once in my beer, but I’m not sure if I’m making that up or not.
A lot of things that say “cook thoroughly” and “keep frozen”, “do not thaw”; it’s fine as long as it’s kept refrigerated. Just precautions against lawsuits, I think. It probably reduces the chance of getting sick by some percentage if you do follow the instructions, but I doubt it’s that much of a risk anyway. don’t blame me if you get sick though.

I eat my own raw cookie that does have eggs in it all the time and have lived many a year. I would eat theirs with a fox, I would eat it in a box…....

I don’t understand why people buy premade chocolate chip cookie dough; it only takes about 5 minutes to make a real batch with good ingredients (it’s cheaper, too!)- and the extra dough freezes beautifully. I have a batch in the freezer now- Mexican chocolate chip cookie dough made with Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips, grated Oaxacan chocolate, almond extract, cinnamon and a little cayenne…mmmmm.

2¼ cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
½ cup shortening
½ cup softened butter
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
12 oz bag of chocolate chips
375F for 10 minutes
Make as much as you want, leave out the eggs entirely and eat it by the bucketful if you feel like it. (Don’t bake it without the eggs, obviously. lol.) But I’m with @crisw, those pre-made cookie doughs are nasty. I don’t want to eat them after they’ve been baked, let alone raw.

And, if anyone is interested, to make them into the Mexican chocolate chip cookies I mentioned-
• Substitute ¾ cup grated Mexican chocolate (I used one from Oaxaca, but you can use any Mexican hot chocolate tablets such as Abuelita) for the white sugar.
• Add 2 tsp of cinnamon, ¼ tsp of cayenne, and 1 tsp. of almond extract.
• Increase the vanilla to 2 tsp.
