Okay, a quick search reveals no trace of this question in the dusty old fluther library. Suprising, but there you have it. Just about every other genre is covered, but not the dirty rat gangster types. So, on with the show we go. Simple enough, just state your idea of the finest gangster movie that you ever feasted your greedy little eyes upon. From The Godfather trilogy to Goodfellas. White Heat to The Untouchables, you decide.

It’s between Godfather, Casino, and The Untouchables for me. I really can’t decide but that certainly narrows it down.
@zenvelo Great choice!
Anything with James Cagney in full psycho mode.
I really, really liked Donnie Brasco. It was…I’m so sorry.. criminally under-rated!
I like the Unflushables by Elliot Mess and the Unflushables.
The Godfather (s)
Miller’s Crossing was good too.
It’s a toss-up between Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and City of God.
Scarface and Goodfellas tossup
I love older ones like “Scarface” and Little Casear” and Bogart breakout film, “Pedrified Forest.” Also like contemporary ones like “Casino” and “Goodfellas.” Mostly, I love the entire genre of film noir crime films.
“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.”
It’s not a film, but I’m in love with Boardwalk Empire, too.
Thanks peeps! I too love the Cagney classics, particularly White Heat & The Public Enemy. Scarface, Goodfellas & The Untouchables are also fine fine movies as stated in my details. If I had to choose a favourite though, i’d have to say Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead just about seals the deal for me. Kick arse film from start to finish, Walken just oozes sadism from every pore.
I’ve been told Natural Born Killers is great, but I only saw part of it
The 1967 version of The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre with Jason Robards as Al Capone. It is based on the true story.
I really enjoyed Goodfellas, but if Snatch. and Ocean’s Eleven count as gangster movies (it’s not the Mafia, but they’re heist movies nonetheless), I’ve gotta say those were great.
In Bruges was pretty damn good, too.
Not sure if this one qualifies (although the characters were certainly considered gangsters in real life): Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
And Bonnie and Clyde (with Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty)
1) Pulp fiction
2) The Maltese Falcon
3) The Godfather
4) Reservoir Dogs
5) I am a Fugitve From The Chain Gang
The Great Mouse Detective, for sure :)
In Bruges
City of God
Snatch
How did I forget Payback? Mel Gibson at his best.
