Have you ever fallen in love with a singer's voice without knowing what he/she looked like?

I’ve fallen in love with singers’ voices without having seen a picture or video. In a couple of cases, I’ve been happy to see that they look just as attractive as they sound, although sometimes in a different way. I’ve also been let down that they look nothing like the way I had imagined.
Has this happened to you? Once you saw a photo, were you pleased? Disappointed? Did it change your opinion of the singer?

Can’t say that I have, but, who was it for you?
Yes, I think it is called the Susan Boyle effect.
She is just as beautiful as her music. :)
Yes yes yes.
I fell in love with this voice, and then I found out that he looks like this.
He’s gorgeous. ;D
Oh, and this guy, who looks like this. I’m not feeling the nose.
I’d have to say Matt Skiba (left) of Alkaline Trio (not the best song, but the best I could find on YouTube). Actually, I first saw them play at Warped Tour a million years ago, but I was waaaay too far from the stage to actually see what he looked like. If I have a physical “type”, he’s it.
I guess I have to say I was a little disappointed to find out that the guy from CAKE looks like this.
Can’t say I’m shallow enough to actually feel disappointed. Surprised, sure, but disappointed? No. If anything, I’m glad when they turn out to be ‘average’ looking…it’s silly to assume a beautiful voice will always be paired with a ‘beautiful’ face.
I fell in love with more than this singers voice when I first heard it. His words are just so… so beautiful. I saw his picture
and loved him just the same (since I don’t think I could have loved him any more than I already did). Awh, Sufjan…
All of my formative years!! AM transistor radios and the odd appearance on the Ed Sullivan show! I still don’t know what half of my loves look like! And they’re dying before I can find them!
Growing up, I was always surprised by what the early R&R singers looked like—Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, guys like that.
I fell in love with Nico Vega’s voice the first time I heard Beast, but for a while I thought the musician was a male. Come to find out, Nico is a female with a kickass fucking voice and I’ve never seen a chick rock the fuck out on stage like she can. She might be my future wifey.
For me it was Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie. When I finally saw what he looked like, I was actually impressed how much he differed from my idea of him, while still managing to be awesome. Either way, his voice and lyrics are GOLDEN. Same thing goes for James Mercer of The Shins.
I fell in love with Patrick Watson listening to the song Giver. I had no idea what he looked like. Then I saw his videos and here is this skinny scruffy little guy. Kinda fits the voice. He has his own unique kind of weird charm. And I love the way he closes his eys or squints when he sings! He’s so into the music. This is one of his new songs. Big Bird in a Small Cage

It wasn’t love, but I had a crush on chase coy’s voice before I saw him. He physically isn’t my type, but he has a very nice voice.
I love country music. A long time ago, before there was CMT, I feel in love with Charlie Pride. I loved him just from the sound of his voice. I had fantasies of being with him and him singing, “You’ve got to, kiss an angel good morning” to me. And then I found out he was…well…you know. He’s married.
Karen Carpenter. I listened and loved her voice for years, without knowing what she looked like. I finally saw an album cover with her photo on it. I did not realize that we have drumming in common. I loved her voice then and i love her voice today.
yes! Jonas Bjerre. He has a very high pitch voice its amazing!
Lead singer of company of thieves… I listened to her voice for over a year without knowing what she looked like. I thought she would have been older, but was actually young and cute!
Before MTV I learned the hard way that a beautiful voice is just that. It seems though with beautiful people in high demand, great looks with marginal looks get the huge recording deals with digital editing fixing the flaws.
julie London, gorgeous singer; haven’t the faintest idea what she looks like.
Yes. When I was about 5 years old I wanted to listen to some music on an old tape player that my dad gave me. The tape my dad gave me to listen to shaped a lot of my musical tastes for years to come and I became besotted with the lead singers voice. The tape, The Best of The Seekers. The Singer, Judith Durham. I’m still a fan to this day. I wonder how many people know who I’m talking about?!
Many years ago, I heard Julio Iglesias and just melted <sighs> Went out looking for the album he’d released at the time, saw the piccie on the sleeve and melted all over again lol. OMG I played that album till I wore the grooves off the vinyl <sighs some more> WHAT a voice!! and the packaging is pretty stunning too :-) @Seelix great question sweetheart, brought back some lovely memories.
huggles honey xx
re Julio <melts all over again….>
hugglys xx
Yes, Don Dokken. I was in love with his voice but never saw a photo til recently. He looked nothing like what I imagined him to be. I thought he would be Nordic-looking, with blond hair and hooded blue eyes. I was surprised, to say the least, but it didn’t affect my response to his music.
@Joker94 I feel the same way about him. I thought he would have black hair, a round face, and large, liquid brown eyes. But I still love him and have never heard a song of his that I didn’t like. He’s like the Midas of music—everything he touches turns to gold. I’m a wee bit jealous of Zooey Deschanel for being lucky enough to marry him. OK, end of fan girl moment.
@lonelydragon I know exactly how you feel! He still is a god of indie rock. Oh, and I’m a bit jealous that Ben Gibbard was lucky enough to marry Zooey Deschanel…
@Joker94 OK, you can have her and I’ll take Ben. Now how will we split them apart? Hmmm….
@lonelydragon Deal. We’ll have to write the best indie rock/love songs ever to win them over.
Yeah that happened when I heard Adele. I had no idea who she was /what she looked like but just thought she had an amazing voice.
