Has anyone ever brought home a "friend" from the grocery store?
A few months ago this
was running across my kitchen floor.It’s feet actually made a noise as it was moving! It was huge.
.Has anything ever came home with you like this?How common is this?Don’t they check for these things when they unload produce?

Well, that just gave me the jim-jams! I’ve read (no I can’t cite sources) that so much produce contains eggs and larvae that eliminating them all is impossible. So, we get little visitors. It’s yukky, but it just is, so I only worry if I see it about to enter my mouth. I’d rather have visitors than have all my produce irradiated, or covered with hazardous stuff…
Long long time ago, visiting at my grandmother’s house. She bought several bananas and got a special spider in the deal.
Grandfather “thinned it out” with a shovel…..
We were in a restuarant and got a salad complete with a nice green caterpillar last year.
Yucky!!!
Spiders make my skin crawl. I once woke up with a Tarantula sitting on my chest. After I changed my pants I caught him and we had him in an aquarium at school. AHHHHHH
HAHA. That’s like killing a small animal. Okay, that’s enough for me today, I must stop following this. Thanks for the heebie jeebies! :)
Alas, this is one of those “you might be a redneck if…” moments.
If we were to come home with such a visitor the little critter would be sure to wind up in my son’s arachnid menagerie, which currently contains two tarantulas and one scorpion (down from two after the tragic loss of “fang” his beloved black empress.)
2 summers ago I was eating a salad I had made for lunch and ½ way through I noticed a live slug, then another and another. HS there were a dozen of them down in the lettuce. Problem there was I had already eaten ½ the salad and the worst part was I picked the lettuce from my garden and washed it myself! Uggh!!
@lucillelucillelucille Here is a nice article about your banana buddy
@YoBob A kid at the store has one for a pet.Yes,he found it at work
@Cruiser Thank you XD
Yep, it ain’t just protein!
How sure are you that it came from the grocery store? Native wolf spiders get very big, and we’ve had big native tarantulas in our house in CA.
I brought home a mr. potato head one time & ........ah, wrong store ;¬}
@crisw -We have wolf spiders here in MI.
It most certainly was not a wolf spider.Much,much bigger than any WS I have ever seen.I am positive that it came from the store,carried in on a bunch of bananas as I said.
There is no mystery as to what it was and it even exhibited some of the described behaviour of a BWS.
@lucillelucillelucille Are you going to have it mounted and hang it on the wall? Guess not, it was a few months ago. oops
Makes my belly sick!! I never buy bananas in a bunch for just this little reason!
That spider is fricken huge! I wouldn’t step on that spider. It would laugh at me. I would grab a shotgun and shoot it!
There is a the goliath bird eating spider ( actually its a tarantula) that can grow to the size of a dinner plate. Imagine seeing one of those!
Yes a spider or two and also banana boxes carry roaches and roach eggs , so beware when you bring in a banana box , mostly used when someone is moving from one home to another.
Ugh! I am terrified of spiders!
