What do you think would be the perfect media channel if you have streetfood for a product? Why?

Asked by meeeek (50points) February 10th, 2011

My product’s a street food. And I was thinking maybe posters? Or a viral video? Do you have any more ideas?

Thanks! :)

Posters are a good idea. Street food, street advertising. You could also put ads on buses or other public transit in your city.

Facebook may work, I know of several that post their whereabouts and times they’ll be open—at Bars at closing time and before.

They connect via the Bar’s Facebook followers “likes”

Try organizing a flashmob. Get it videod and it may turn viral, though I always thought videos going viral was more of an organic process and not orchestrated. Of course, free samples may be a great way as well to attract new customers. What do you have, if you don’t mind me asking. Hot dogs? YUMMY!! Cheeseburgers? Ever YUMMIER!!!!

Speaking of street food…

There was a short summer program on Food Network called The Great Food Truck Race in which seven competitors traveled to cities all across the US.

They only had a limited time to source supplies and set up for business and make their presence known.

There was one group who were the most media-savvy by far. They were busily connecting with contacts prior to arrival in each destination and always had a crowd waiting at their arrival.

I know they were using FB to advertise their Bahn Mi sandwiches but I think there were other foodie networks of folks to whom they were connecting as well.

As long as you’re not from their native city (LA) they might be willing to share some of their lists and/or publicity tips with you.

They have a contact email addy and phone number on their website. Making a polite inquiry certainly couldn’t hurt, I would think. They seemed like a fun friendly bunch.

@120aks, I don’t think you’re familiar with it, it’s called Isaw here in my country. It’s barbecued pig or chicken intestines. I know it might sound disgusting to some but here it’s a yummy delicacy! :)

Here in the US, pig intestine is a delicacy known as Chittlins

:)

Popular mostly in the South or in Soul Food places.

What country are you in ?

@Buttonstc, Oh so you have it too :) I’m from the Philippines.

I would check out Food Carts Portland and see what some of those businesses have done- Portland is the capital of street food in the US.

Interesting. In my younger days, I almost ended up marrying a guy from the Phillipines :)

The folks from Nom Nom are of Asian descent. Drop them a line. They may know of some international types of foodie networks you can connect with.

But I’m assuming you have tons of competition in your area as street food is a way of life over there. I’ve watched enough of Anthony Bourdain’s programs on the Travel Channel. He is a great enthusiast of street food and wherever he travels, he always finds a local to guide him to the best stuff.

Too bad you can’t get him to visit you. Ha ha. But he already did a program in the Phillipines. Unlikely he’s going back anytime soon. But he likes pork in any form and is a real fan of the more uncommon parts of any animal. Those parts usually discarded. He knows how delicious they can be.

I don’t know how much American cable TV you get over there. But I think you’d enjoy him. His program is titled No Reservations.

@Meeeek Sure, I never heard of it, but will surely try it if the occasion presents itself. Had other stuff that some may consider unappetizing. My theory is may as well try it, the worst that can happen is a temporary bad taste in your mouth.

I heard of one street vendor who uses twitter to broadcast the location she’s heading to next.

@augustlan

Lots of the Portland vendors do that. Plus Facebook updates and all kinds of other stuff.
