How much lutein is in an 8-ounce glass of fresh carrot juice?

Fresh carrot juice is like health food on sterroids. Carrot juice is more readily digested than fresh carrots, and it would require eating quite a few fresh carrots to get the nutrients and anti-oxidants contained in a single glass of the juice.
Carrot juice provides a great dose of nutrients and a full range of carotenoids including beta carotene and lutein. But I can’t seem to locate a reference that tells how much you get from a given amount. Does anyone know?

Well, do you know how much of that is water content? If so, you could use this information:
“The mean contents in dry weight (DW) in different carrot preparations ranged from 406.7 to 456.3, from 183.7 to 213.5 and from 29.0 to 39.6 microg/g for beta-carotene, alpha-carotene and lutein.”
You might want to note that carrots are not a particularly rich source of lutein although they are high, not surprisingly, in carotenoids.
@crisw Thanks so much for the info. I don’t fight it. We just use the bottled 20 MG supplements. But my wife was wondering how the supplement compared to buying bottled carrot juice at $5.99 per quart. Just from what you’ve said, without doing a lot of math to account for the water dilution, I can guess that a bottle of 60 capsules at 20 MG each is a bargin at $15.98, and since they are on sale at 2 for the price of 1 right now, I should forget about juicing carrots and buy q 6 month supply. :-)
