What should I do for my boyfriend for Valentine's day?

Asked by klutzaroo (4716points) February 11th, 2011

I haven’t bought into the whole VD thing in the past, but my boyfriend does. I know that he got me something (and I know what it is and its pretty awesome), but I have no idea what to get/do for him since I haven’t really celebrated. There’s a pretty big income disparity right now so he’s not expecting me to do anything big and expensive because he knows I can’t afford it. But I’d like to do something to show him that I appreciate him and the effort that he’s going to on our first Valentine’s to demonstrate that he loves me. Not that he needs to. <3 Ideas?

Stay within your budget and don’t buy into all the hype. Do something that will create a memory, something you both like doing.

There is no scorecard to compare, Do what is in your heart to show what you feel. It can be a heartfelt note in a card, a poem, a meal, a card, something silly, something serious.
Whatever you determine to do is from you to him and that is all that matters.
Some of the most wonderful gifts and most memorable ones are ones that were made and not bought. For me, simple heartfelt is what is best.

I like what was suggested in a similar thread a few days ago. Make him a mix CD of songs that are meaningful to the two of you and also express how you feel about him. And get him more than one card- one loving and one that is sexy/fun.

I have a cute idea.. :) If you’re an artist, get 2 blank canvases, (they’re cheap) and paint your face on one of them and his on the other. Then paint an old-fashioned tin can pressed to your ear, and make the string go across the canvas to his canvas, where he has a tin can pressed to his ear as well. I’m assuming you know that this can be used to communicate, so paint a speech bubble coming out of your mouth saying “I love you.” Very hipster and cute. This is what I’ve always wanted someone to give me. :) If you can’t paint, get one of those street painters to do it. It’s not very expensive. If you don’t get it message me. :)

Tacos.

@SamIAm I expect to see many more VD jokes in the next few days. I already caught someone saying that they “actually like VD”.

Wrap yourself in celephane wrap, naked, with a bow. Let him slowly unwrap his present.

Anything creative that involves a few hours of your time where you are thinking about him.

for example: cooking a meal, writing a poem and framing it, making a scrapbook of meaningful moments in your relationship, CDs or playlists of your favorite songs, a coupon book of love activities that he can cash in at any time, etc…

You get the idea ;)

@YARNLADY If I knew the answer, why in the hell would I ask?

@klutzaroo Many people ask question on the internet to get validation that their idea was a good one, or to see what other people would do. However, I meant my answer in a NSFW way.

I made dinner… in an interesting cooking outfit featuring stripper shoes. I also got a box of Spiderman valentine’s (yeah, he likes Spidey) and wrote on all of them reasons why I love him. I have to add to that list his excellent taste in jewelry. ;)
