Does e file automatically adjust your claim for all the benefits due?

Asked by silky1 (1510points) February 12th, 2011

She has no dependents to claim and her federal withheld was around $500. When e file calculated all she was entitled to her refund amount was well over $1000.

I’m not exactly understanding your question. When you (general you) file your taxes, you have to put in the information for what you are eligible for. If you don’t put in the information, it won’t know what you are eligible for. How much of a refund you get depends on what your tax responsibilities were for the year, how much you paid towards taxes, and what you had for tax credits.

If you enter all information correctly, and use a legitimate software package or online site to file, it should automatically calculate the return (or tax due).

IRS and their computers, work on percentages. If your income, deductions, and charity contributions are not within their percentages, a red flag is given.

Sometimes, e-files, like Turbo Tax will add or delete deductions that you do or do not qualify for. In order to see her final computations, bring up a copy of her emailed 2010 tax forms and check it over. Your answer may be there.
