What objects can I use to light a match?

Asked by Anatelostaxus (1428points) February 13th, 2011

Seriously, is it actually possible to just strike against something and have instant fire?
I’m out of lighters, I’ve got matches but the sand paper’s no good… and I’m desperate for a fecking cigarette…

If all else fails, turn on burner on you stove and light away. Just be careful.

What @john65pennington said. Most matches now are “safety” matches and won’t light on anything but the provided strike strip.

So-called ‘strike-anywhere’ matches may be struck virtually anywhere that is sufficiently dry and rough.
Interesting backyard project: make your own matches.

In “For A Few Dollars More,” Lee Van Cleef lights a match on a hunchback’s hunch. Always thought that was pretty cool.

Maybe very fine sandpaper would work, or the fine side of a nail file?
