What band or musical artist have you been listening to lately?

Asked by glenjamin (2505points) February 14th, 2011

So recently I heard this band on the radio, and I have been listening to their music ever since. I really like their style, it is alternative rock, not the screamo rock you usually hear nowadays. Anyway the name of the band is Hurt, and they’ve been around for a while, I just never heard of them before.

So what have you been listening to lately? Is there one artist you can’t seem to get enough of? Feel free to give as much or as little info as you like (like the story of how you started listening to them, a summary of musical style, e.t.c.).

I can’t get enough of Pink Floyd… my Dad had been playing it for me since I could remember. To this day they are still my favorite band.

It’s been mostly Rage Against the Machine lately. Guess I’m even more angry at the system than usual.

Well it all started when I answered a question here, asking if we’d ever fallen for a singers voice, without seeing them and did we still feel the same way when we did see what they looked like. I answered that I’d gotten majorly smitten by Julio Iglesias and had dashed out to buy his album at the time “Begin the Beguine” well having written about it, off I went to find the cd (which replaced my vinyl version lol) and have been listening to it since…. its still just as wonderful :-)

I’ve never really been the biggest fan of classical music, I normally I listen to bands like coldplay, oasis, the beatles and that, i guess you get my style. But just the other day I came over this amazing french musician and composer and i totally fell in love with his work of art. Its like I can’t even describe how his pieces makes me feel. Just a simple melody on the piano brings out all these emotions and its just really beautiful. They just make me feel so in peace. The musicians name is Yann Tiersen, I’d want you all to have a listen – it’ll make your day. But does anyone know of any other musicians that play similar music?

I’m really loving the resurgence of Americana/ folk music going on. I saw two of my favorite bands in the past couple of years on the Grammy’s last night- The Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons. Refreshing to see some real musicians get the attention they deserve. Also the new Iron and Wine album has been on heavy rotation AND for those jammy jam moments I’m in love with Yeasayer, Mew, and of course JAPAN.

@kariper you might try a band called Eluvium. A little more somber at times than yann tiersen but beautiful piano music.

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities I remember the drunken night at a bar in Spain when I was 17 where I was talking to a British teenager. The last thing he said to me was to wait for the Arctic Monkeys. He knew them personally and knew they’d take off in England soon and then the US. Huzzah!

I just discovered the Kingston Trio, so they’re #1 on my ipod.

Definitely Opiuo because he’s one of the few electronic artists that’s not Bassnectar or some washed up dubstep producer who’ll come to Humboldt County.

Will hopefully see him live in a few weeks.

Lately I’ve been on a Shins kick. I’ve also been listening to Mumford & Sons, as well as my regulars (IE, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Who)

Yeah, the Black Keys are real good. I’ve also been checking out The Gaslamp Killer and DJ Shadow. All great stuff.

No one new at the moment although I’m really enjoying Lady Antebellum right now. I also can’t get enough of Barbra Streisand, Cher, Meat Loaf, Alicia Keys, Anastacia etc etc but these have been favourites of mine for years!

@hopscotchy First of all, yes Mumford and sons and Iron and Wine are two really good bands with great music, I enjoy them a lot too – just to let you know that you have great music taste. I also had a listen to the band Eluvium as you suggested , and I can really like what I’m hearing. This is exactly what I was looking for, as you said a bit somber at times but I think that’s what I like about their music. Thank you, it’s truly beautiful!

@sliceswiththings what an amazing story. It sounds really funny, it is like he could see into the future, even though he didn’t – but just the idea of someone predicting the future is a really intriguing thought, so sneaky.

“Who the fuck are the Artic Monkeys?”

I’ve been really into My Chemical Romance, Paramore, and Green Day recently.
