I often hear people say that working from home comes with the added perk of being able to conduct business in your pajamas, underwear, or heck, even buck naked. Do most people actually take advantage of that perk? What do/would you wear, in all reality?
As most of you know, I work from home full-time. I get dressed every day (even if I’m not working). Just jeans and a shirt, nothing fancy or anything, but it’s real clothes – including shoes. Is that odd? I do own some pajamas, but only ever wear them after taking a shower at night, or when I’m sick. I sleep nekkid. When I get up, I’ve got to throw something on, and pajamas never occur to me. I think I may be insane.

My home work uniform was/is pjs. I sleep nekkid too, but I dress in pjs when I am working on my own from home.
I worked from a little back when I was doing a lot of freelance work. I was either in sweats or jeans & Tshirt.
My father (on the other hand), woke up with the alarm every day at 5:30AM. Showered, dressed in nice work clothes (dress pants, collared shirt, shoes), ate a full breakfast, read the paper, brushed teeth, combed hair – then “left” for the office…which just happened to be five feet from his bedroom.
I work from home and always wear something smart but casual. Then I feel I am in the right frame of mind to go to the ‘office’.
Can’t imagine sitting in my pyjamas all day. Wearing pyjamas indicates to me that I am about to go to bed
A great big smile.
Every. Fucking. Day.
I would wear just shorts (no shirt, no shoes) during the summer; and slippers, pants, and a t-shirt on cooler days.
The above is predicated on not having any visual contact with any clients or associates.
I found it really hard working 3 feet from my bed. I would try to get up, get dressed and “go to work,” but it was dificult. I spent more than a few days in s robe.
When I worked from home, I usually wore jeans and a flannel shirt or t-shirt and shoes.
Not much at all. Now it would be my Taiwanese Fishermans pants and my comfy fleece hiking vest. Summer would be Biff shorts and I would work from my boat.
I don’t work from home, but I am basically homebound. I wear pajamas all the time. Sometimes I even wear pajamas on the rare occasion that I leave the house.
If I am painting, jeans and some kind of top.If I am throwing clay,leggings,short-sleeved shirt and an apron.I would however like to wear a chickensuit :)
Lol some “work” days I don’t even get out of bed to work…but it takes some work the night before to set that up
But mostly I like the fact my customers can’t see me….lol. until “the guy” shows up for the shipments….then I have to get dressed and go out.
The few days I get to work from home get the same treatment as the office. Jeans, shirt, shoes, etc. In my case it’s practical because I never know when I’ll have to run out to the office anyway.
Back in the day I occasionally had to work from home (weather conditions in Colorado, usually) but I got all the way dressed, it helped to put me in the right frame of mind. Same with when I homeschooled Katawagrey. I made her get dressed for it, so I had to, too.
Probably jeans, a t-shirt and most likely some bedhead.
I would love to be able to work from home!
Depends on what I feel like wearing, but I can guarantee there would be nothing akin to traditional office wear on my person. I would wear more than my skivvies, though.
@aprilsimnel I’d put something on if I was going out to see clients.
Yeah, because I was thinking, sitting at your desk chair in the nude wouldn’t be very sanitary. :)
I find I am not as productive if I wear PJ’s so I usually try to get dressed; jeans and T-shirt.
I put a robe or towel on the chair. I’m not a total slob.
I can’t work unless I am dressed. If painting it is old torn jeans and shirt. Otherwise just ordinary low- profile jeans shirt.
I refuse to wear regular clothes in the house. A day without pajamas is like a day without sunshine.
Shoes? It would be a cold day in hell that I would wear my shoes around the house. My feet like to be naked.
Stupid as this may sound, it doesn’t help that getting dressed is exceptionally challenging for me. So pajamas make my life easier.
I always wear PJs at home, and that wouldn’t change if I were working. I wear ‘em when I’m doing schoolwork, so I guess that counts.
The shoes thing boggles my mind, though – most, if not all, Canadians take off their shoes in the house most of the time, no matter the weather. I guess I can understand Americans’ habit of leaving shoes on when they come into the house, but why would you put shoes on if you’re not leaving the house? It seems so strange to me…
“but why would you put shoes on if you’re not leaving the house? It seems so strange to me…”
I find it strange, as well.
@Jude – I think this deserves a question of its own.
I often worked nude at home until one day the UPS man caught me trapped between my desk and the hallway to my bedroom nude.
That cured me.
I dress, whether working or just hanging out at home, in a manner such that if 911 showed up, I (or my mother) wouldn’t be too embarrassed.
I have never worked from home but if I did I would wear probably the same sorts of things I wear on days when I’m not working. Just regular clothes. I’ve never liked wearing pjs or underwear during the daytime.
I also wear shoes indoors because I have very bad eyesight, and if I don’t wear shoes I’ll break my toes by banging into the furniture.
I don’t live in my house alone, so I always wear clothes. My adult grandsons have an aversion to seeing their grandma naked.
Even when I had a severe skin outbreak a couple of years ago and my doctor told me no underwear, I wore a long caftan around the house. My feet stay naked unless I’m going in the car.
I work from home, and I often begin the day wearing PJs, but then I go change into regular clothes during my first/morning break.
It gets really hot here in the summer, so later in the year I might end up wearing a bathing suit or sundress while I work!
PJs or jeans and a t-shirt. If I know I’ll be running out as well as working from home, I’ll dress a little nicer. I’m pretty lazy, though!
Whatever I want to. Usually sweats. Working from home is a lovely thing.
jeans & casual top & slippers. no makeup or jewelry, hair combed but unfussed.
I am in my jammies now. started the day early with a support call so told the folk at the office I will WFH today. Almost noon… do we dress for lunch ? hmmm
I’m retired, and the only income-related work that I do at home is manage my investments.
Even though I’m not doing that now, I wouldn’t e.g., put on a shirt now just to fill out my claim form.
