I like a few Taylor Swift songs and I really like the song “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” by Reba McIntire. That’s about it, however.

I don’t like the new pop-country – it’s just not my style. I do, however, love Johnny Cash and other musicians of his era, though I don’t know much about them.

Mike Ness of Social Distortion does some great country songs that feel very Cash.

I love classic country songs like The Devil Went Down to Georgia. Country and rock are both rooted in blues, right? Modern country seems to be going in this country/pop direction that I’m not so fond of.

There isn’t a genre of music that I dislike entirely, including country. ...Actually, country doesn’t even come close, since it’s all my parents listen to and I wasn’t allowed to make my own listening choices until I was eleven or twelve years old. I do like a lot of newer artists but my favorites are folks like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Sr. and (because let’s not leave out the ladies!) Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn.
.
On the other hand, I wish Toby Keith would vanish from the face of the planet.

@MacBean really? i kinda like toby Keith

@MacBean he’s not as good as kenny chensy. i still like him though

It’s just not my thing. I’m not familiar with the culture, either.

I dig it. Like @MacBean, there’s not any genre I dislike as a whole, just certain musicians and/or instruments/sounds. Like most people here, older country is the way to go but there are a few decent current country musicians.

Country music is just not for me. I like a lot of different kinds of music from The Beatles to The Game and I never got caught up in the Country scene. Some country songs have GREAT lyrics but the music is simple and very similar to other country songs. And this new “pop country” music is just… it’s awful. I feel there’s no thought into making the songs anymore… but I guess that goes for any “pop-___” song.

I guess what I’m trying to say is music isn’t what it used to be anymore, songs used to have deep meaning now it’s just “I’m at the club, I’m gettin’ b++++s, don’t f+++ with me, I’ll f+++ you up!”

Johnny Cash is my favorite and while country music is not what I usually listen to,there are alot of good songs out there…I just can’t think of any right now…so there! ;)

Jay484's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille I can think of two off the top of my head…. Who are you when im not looking by blake shelton, and the boys of fall by kenny chensy

I dislike most modern pop country. But I love this country song by Hank Williams III describing how he hates pop country. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEY8ARSGHTU

Not a big fan of country, but I like some Johnny Cash songs and this

I used to hate it and now I love it. Toby Keith is a favorite. So is Alan Jackson.

I like country singer like Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, and the band Alabama. I don’t like this new pop-country crap.

Generally speaking I don’t care for it, but the soundtrack to Urban Cowboy is phenomenal. Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson are amazing, also.

I love country music. It is pretty much all I ever listen to. I have loved country music all my life. Toby Keith is one of my favorites. I like all of his songs.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

It all depends on the artist. I like the old classic country, but I also like Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, and the Dixie Chicks. And let’s not forget this one. One of my faves. =0)

I don’t care for country music, but when I was little there used to be the Roy Clark Show on TV and I had a real appreciation for his banjo playing. Also, Steve Martin is a great banjo player. I do like the Taylor Swift song (don’t know what it’s called) but it’s known as a “crossover hit” because it’s country that crossed over to the pop charts.

Another thing, sometimes when I’m in my car I listen to NPR and they might have a show about really old country, like music from the Ozarks, and I like the really old quaint stuff, and some classics like Foggy Mountain Breakdown.

But no, as a rule I don’t listen to country radio and I don’t know any stars.

I love country music and can do without country songs. The lyrics seem to always bring down or phony up some really killer musicianship. Put Chet Atkins and Vassar Clements on stage together and you have some toe tappin boot stomping jams!

AmWiser's avatar

I like most country music. I enjoy the lyrics and that twang in the voices of country singers.

I like it. Like all genres, there are good and bad. I do like country music, like it a lot—I don’t like every country song to be released (I’m not big on Keith Urban)—but the country music station is on my car stereo’s preset.

I hate modern top 40 country.

I love old country and early troubadour stuff. I love Marty Robbins, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Chet Atkins, Hank Williams (and his progeny), and so on. I do enjoy some modern, more offbeat stuff like Unknown Hinson.

People like Big & Rich, Kenny Chesney, and all those dudes that write 9/11 songs can take my boot up their ass.

Yesssss. That’s pretty much exactly what was going through my head when I mentioned Toy Keith.

lillycoyote's avatar

I never liked it until I moved to Texas and then I kind of developed an appreciation of it, to a certain extent. I’m still not a really big fan but I like it, some of it, quite a bit more than I used to.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I like the older stuff, as in from the 1920s – ~1969. I was a kid when Countrypolitan came in in the mid-1970s, and if I never have to hear some crap like “Sleepin’ Single in a Double Bed” ever again, it’d be too soon.

IHateMusic's avatar

I like it more than:
Disco
Rap
Heavy Metal
Hip-Hop
Boogie-Woogie (whatever the hell that is)

But my least favorite is a close cousin of country.. Rockabilly.

So I guess it’s OK.

Fucking hilarious would be my call.

It depends what mood I am in. If I feel melancholy and morose it fits really well. Tends to be a little bit too much about lost lurve though. Even the songs that sound chirpy are usually about losing someone.

Poor cowboys, life is never easy for them.

Jude's avatar

I love old country.

glenjamin's avatar

I don’t own any country music, though I have heard some rock songs that sound country-ish and they weren’t half bad. I mainly listen to rock, and I can tolerate country if I had to, but it is not something I would go out of my way to listen to. I think I would rather listen to country than today’s rap/hip-hop though, if I had to choose between the two. Oh and I do like Johhny Cash and the Devil went down to Georgia. I only found out about Johnny Cash when he did those covers of rock songs like NIN and soundgarden, 2 of my favorite rock bands.

Every time I think of country or rap, I play the song Wipeout.

Needless to say, I have never been or never will be a lover of country music or rap.

Country music is mostly “beer-drinking, suicide music” and rap people have no talent and hate the world.

Negative on both.

I love country music!
