Why do some women (apparently those in the limelight) wear the newest versions of stiletto heels?
Shoes like these appear to instruments of torture designed to torment and injure the wearer. Is this similar to the custom of binding women’s feet? Why do some women behave like mindless sheep instead of simply saying “No, thanks.”?

@gailcalled Wondered the same thing. They can’t feel good so why not say screw it, I’m going for comfort over looks.
I don’t think it’s a “mindless sheep” thing.
Stilettos look nice. That’s why we wear them.
They can begin to be uncomfortable if you’re wearing the wrong size or they are poorly made or if you’ve been standing for a while, but most people who care if they feet hurt are aware of this.
But hey, they’re not made for comfort or walking shoes. They’re made to be fabulous!
Designers give celebrities shoes to wear for free to see if a trend will start that will prompt store buyers to stock their styles.
Why would any other woman other than a comped celebrity or fashion model wear them? Because some of us like particular styles of heeled shoes. I happen to be able to walk well and gracefully in heels without tearing up my feet. I’m in my mid 40’s with no bunions, no hammertoes, no ingrown nails, etc. Competitive running for a decade gave me calluses and feet uglier than any other time in my life.
If you don’t like heeled shoes then don’t buy them and don’t assume other women are “slaves” to fashion.
Because a lot of women don’t think for themselves (true of men, too). I know tons of women who base their value on their looks, if they have a man at their side, and how much suffering they go through to get the looks and the man (because it doesn’t count if it came easily). Such is life.
Because they are sexy, men like them, and they give a long, sleek look to the leg. simple. I could never wear them , too uncomfortable. Brings to mind, I had a friend over who for some reason was in our bedroom. She noticed a RED pair on the floor, the kind you have to special order they have such high heels. “how do you walk in such things” ummm, I have never walked in them….ok. That’s what stilettos are really about…
I loved them and have kept a pair from when I could wear them, so I can just look at them- like art! They are not meant for long walks or for standing, They’re meant for looking at, little bit of dancing, beautiful foot on the end of a crossed leg.
because they look sexy and comfort always takes the back burner when it comes to being sexy. Lots of women like to show off their feet ( I like to look at them) and they tend to like nice shoes. Not the same as foot binding. I can see how they can be very uncomfortable. stilettos are not a requirement for being sexy so if you don’t want to wear them you don’t have to.
I have always thought that 3” heels made womens’ legs look long and pretty. It is the exaggerated height (close to 6” and the same as standing en pointe in toe shoes) that I find odd.
It makes the woman look disproportionately elongated from the waist to the floor compared to her height above the waist. That is what triggered my original question.
@gailcalled There may be some side effects of wearing stilettos. I wouldn’t know. If I were a woman I would choose comfort too. high heels look like they are hell on the feet.
@gailcalled That last shoe you posted would actually be comfortable due to the huge platform, although I don’t know who in the world would wear such a tacky thing besides a stripper.
@Facade: Would gravity and the laws of physics make the wearer more prone to stumble and perhaps fall?
If their balance was poor, yes.
@I didn’t know they sold those for men lol. learn something everyday lol. They one for the women look almost like torture. How do they walk it those. I’ll stick to my boots lol.
@Mikewlf337: Well, those boots are made for walking.
You can find almost anything in men’s sizes now. G*d bless Google.
@gailcalled especially my boots, like walking on two cushions and they are waterproof as well. :D
