Does anyone remember the name of that roadside restaurant they had in the 60's and 70's that sold the most amazing chocolate sundaes?
The chocolate syrup they used was really deliciously special. I’ve never tasted anything like it. What I’m really looking for is a recipe for it….but I can’t remember the name of the restaurant. When we were on family trips, Dad would always stop there at least once…it was always just off the highway. Orange roof??

Sounds like Howard Johnson’s. Does this ring a bell?
THAT’S IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You’re a genium @WasCy! Now…where do I find the recipe??
There are sites that work to duplicate secret recipes. If you google “Pizza Hut Italian salad dressing” for example, you’ll find some of the sites. (I don’t know if you’d have the same luck with Howard Johnson’s hot fudge sauce, which was why I didn’t recommend that, but once you’re at the sites that do this sort of thing, then have at it.)
Personally, I think that Friendly’s Ice Cream is way better (particularly in the hot fudge sundae department) than HoJo’s, if you’re in Ohio or points east.
Howard Johnson ice cream was once considered premium ice cream. My, how things have changed. And at the rate they’re changing, future generations will reminisce about when MacDonald’s and Burger King made great, home-style burgers.
It’s not the ice cream I remember so much as the chocolate sauce…and viola! I think I may have found a similar recipe! Years and years ago I was looking through a magazine and came across it. I stashed it…and went looking for it today. Found it. It was from 1980….
