Can anyone recommend a GOOD dandruff shampoo?

I’ve tried Head and Shoulders and Tea Tree shampoos but they don’t seem to work. Although Tea Tree seems to relieve some of the itching.
I shower and wash my hair often but I still get these white flakes on my hair all the time.

Have you tried Neutrogena’s T-Gel? That might be worth a shot.
Are you using products? Poor quality hair products like mousse, hair spray or gel with a high alcohol content can cause flakes, too.
If you actually have a flaky scalp, you should alternate OTC dandruff shampoos in order to prevent a resistance. Check the active ingredients to make sure you are not getting the same one. (Zinc, Selenium Sulfide, Ketoconazole, etc.)
If that fails you can ask your doctor to take a peek. It could also be a condition such as psoriasis or eczema and a prescription could suit you best.

As already stated, T-Gel!
My husband uses Selsun blue medicated. It must work or he would have told me to get something else!
I think you may be washing your hair to much. Washing to much removes all the natural oils in your hair. Try washing less often if you can. T gel is a good product.
This year, I got dandruff for the first time when the weather turned cold. Luckily, the first shampoo I tried did the trick and it hasn’t been a problem at all. I use Neutrogena Daily Control shampoo with conditioner. The first time I used it, there was no improvement. The second time, the dandruff actually seemed worse and I almost gave up on it. The third time, however, cleared it up completely. Now I use my regular shampoo and conditioner most days but use the Neutrogena two or three times a week. No itching, no flakes.
I don’t think it’s the best shampoo as far as styling goes, but if I also use a leave-in conditioner (the one I have now is by Aveeno), my hair is at least manageable (I have a lot of long hair!). The scent of the shampoo isn’t bad, and the cost is reasonable considering I don’t use the shampoo every day. In fact, I’m only on my second bottle since October.
Good luck, and I hope you find something that works for you!
Another vote for Selsun Blue. Mr. Fiance uses it and says it really helps.
My dad uses Nizoral, which I believe is a little stronger, but he has psoriasis on his scalp in addition to regular ol’ dandruff.
Any shampoo that contains tar will work. Read the ingredients on the side of the bottle. Tar has been used for this purpose for many years and seems to work.
Whatever you get, make sure it does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate. That is very irritating to the scalp.
It’s not shampoo, but here’s a recipe for a good hair rinse that helps with dry scalp. You will need an old shampoo bottle, ¼ cup of vinegar (white or apple cider), and a few drops of tea tree oil. Pour the vinegar into the bottle, then add water until the bottle is almost full. Sprinkle in a few drops of tea tree oil and shake the bottle. Then use the rinse on your hair after your daily shampoo and conditioner. As an added bonus, this mixture also softens the hair.
I agree with MissAusten – in part (no pun intended.) I think it’s not so much the brand as how you use it. Try leaving it in a little longer and using it regularly before you go out and buy something else.
Go to your derm!! I had a problem a few winters ago and he prescribed me this awesome shampoo. It was brown and gross looking and did not smell great but worked so good! It went away in about two weeks. The derm is AMAZING with things like this!! Good luck!
That Neutrogena Daily Control 2 in 1 shampoo does the trick for me. It actually smells pleasant and it makes my hair feel super soft and smooth. I think I’m sticking with it.
Thanks everyone!! Anyone else can feel free to contribute more ideas, but I think I’ve chosen my shampoo.
