Can you recommend books (fiction) that are based around the lives of Circus entertainers?

Asked by OpryLeigh (25310points) March 1st, 2011

I am currently reading Geek Love by Katherine Dunn which I love and I have also read Water For Elephants which was good (but not as gripping as Geek Love is for me). Can you recommend any others?

Also Darren Shan’s Book series “Cirque Du Freak” has some characters that work at a circus and even the main character joins the circus, but its mostly based about Vampires. You should look it up tho, its a really good series.

Right now I’m reading A Son of the Circus by John Irving. It isn’t so much about circus performers, but there is a side plot involving them. It’s a good book nonetheless.

Also, the HBO series Carnivale is super awesome – it follows a travelling carnival in the 1930s.

also there’s nights at the circus by angela carter but dont look for any realistic depictions there.

Water for Elephants was rather good. It’s also coming out in theaters some time this year…
