Lesbians, bisexuals, or women who appreciate gay cinema, do you have a favorite lesbian movie?

My all time favorite is Henry and June. A close second is a Canadian film called “When Night is Falling”.
I love artsy fartsy films with beautiful women in it. :)

I haven’t really watched any gay “cinema” (to my knowledge), but I’ve seen quite a lot of lesbian porn. I like them all.
I didn’t know there were “lesbian movies”. I know what I’ll be doing tonight…
When you say “gay cinema” do you mean “movies where at least one main character is gay”? If that is the case, I love Saving Face. If you mean something else, then I am confused.
Kataway, you’re right. What I meant was at least one gay character. Thanks!
And, I liked that one, too!
@Facade, you should check out Tipping the Velvet.
“Fire” is another of my favorites.
@Facade Have a look here.
Most disturbing? “Sister My Sister”, although, I do love Jodhi May.
@Jude These look promising =)
There’s a dearth of good options. I did enjoy Bound, in spite of the presence of Jennifer Tilley.
@syz It’s her voice, right?
Fingersmith is incredibly sensual, romantic and lovely.
I loved the movie, But I’m A Cheerleader. Weird, hilarious, and satirical.
Wait, I don’t meet the criteria for answering the question. Nevermind :/
@kenmc wish that I could change it. I would say “those who appreciate lesbian flicks (minus the porn), what is your favorite?”
Oh, I almost forgot Songcatcher. What an interesting movie!
@Vunessuh I’ve often wondered about Naomi in real life. My Gaydar goes off with her.
I am a fan of gay cinema, and here are my favorites:
“But I’m a Cheerleader” (and anything directed by Jamie Babitt)
“The Itty-Bitty Titty Committee” (it is naive and trite at times with its faux-feminism, but the love stories between the women involved are very realistic)
My favorite director of today is Gregg Araki, who uses hypersexual gay characters in almost all of his films. “The Living End” is a great example.
Todd Hayne’s “Poison” is great.
Anything by Derek Jarmen.
I love Alex Sichel’s “All Over Me”. It’s got such a great 90’s vibe.
Gus Van Sant’s “Mala Noche”.
I loved the relationship between the girls in “Heavenly Creatures”
Personally, I love Better Than Chocolate – it involves a whole lot of dimensions of the sexual interaction of women – including those considered “over-the-hill” and transgendered women in a fun, poppy, and mainstream way. A difficult thing for a movie to do.
Plus it has a song with the opening lyrics “I’m not a fucking drag queen / I’m in another bracket / What you see before you / Is not some midnight racket”.
@ladymia69 You have introduced me to a few. Thanks!
Sister my Sister (disturbing premise – NSFW), but, the acting here is wonderful. Such a great cast. I love Julie Waters and Jodhi May makes me weak in the knees.
@iamthemob Oh my gosh, how could I forget about that movie!? I even own it. Great, great, funny movie. Wendy Crewson was brilliant.
@Jude I am gonna check out some of the ones you’ve mentioned also!
@Vunessuh – I was asking myself “I hope Wendy Crewson” was the mother – and she was – and you’re right, right? The perfect amount of uptight and willing to learn brought about by love-life disaster.
@Jude Holy crap, I totally forgot about Henry and June! Beautiful…you should really read Anais Nin’s book of the same name…very tell-all and gorgeous. Any of Anais Nin’s literature is very woman/woman firendly and very very hot.
Top 3 for me:
Tipping The Velvet (Love Love Love!)
But I’m a Cheerleader (Funnest lesbian movie so far.)
Lost and Delirious (…I still tear up every single time.)
I’m none of the people mentioned in the question but I really like Boys Don’t Cry. I suppose you might classify that as a lesbian movie. Or at least transgender anyway.
But I’m A Cheerleader
High Art
Better Than Chocolate
Bound
Loving Annabelle
Imagine Me and You (Gooood Movie) :)
I haven’t seen many, maybe they are harder to come by here. The ones I do have, I had to order from the USA.
My favorites of those are:
Fire
Better Than Chocolate
But I’m a Cheerleader
If These Walls Could Talk 2
Boys Don’t Cry
All our movies are still packed in boxes from moving over a year ago ..lol. Those are the ones that stick out for me.
I’ve never heard of several of the ones listed on this thread ..worth looking into :)
One of these weekends, I’m going to have a gay cinema marathon. Some of these movies look pretty good.
