What is a good recipe for a drink to make when you have a headache?

Asked by pcmonkey (427points) March 1st, 2011

Pretty much explains itself. I have a headache but It’s only like a tiny throbbing pain on one side of my head. I heard tea gets rid of it so I am looking for a good recipe. But I don’t really have like lavender oil, etc. And other ways to help get rid of this headache will also be appreciated.

I do not have a recipe for tea; however, when I have a headache, I usually lay down with a warm or cold compress over my eyes. This is not just when my eyes hurt. For me, it helps with any type of headache I get.

Peppermint tea is my go-to for headaches. Just plain peppermint tea. I always keep some on-hand for migraines and sinus headaches.

Peppermint tea is helpful for headaches, I agree with @theninth.

Coffee, tea, coca-cola. Did you skip your caffeine today or drink it later than usual?

If it’s a dehydration headache, drink water.
If it’s a caffeine headache, drink something caffeinated.

Caffeine mixed with 400–800mg of ibuprofen is the answer. I swear to god I would do a commercial for ibuprofren for free cause of how much I love it. Tylenol (acetaminophen), asprin and aleve do nothing for me.

Drinking plenty of water is always a good solution. White willow bark is supposed to be a good herbal replacement for asprin—it actually contains the chemical that is refined to make asprin. Otherwise, any relaxing herbal tea would probably work. Chamomile, mint, hops, valerian, etc. Green or black tea, or coffee (even decaf) might help because they contain caffeine, which helps in many cases. (Decaf has just a tiny bit of caffeine. Ditto for green tea.) I hope you feel better!

Grab your head temple with both thumbs and rub them in a circular fashion as you take a deep breath and close your eyes. Another thing you could do is to sit on a chair in a dark room and take some relaxing breathing hypnotic exercises. Talk to yourself and say that as you breathe in and out you relax and your head feels better. Your mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is not if you repeat it enough times. Proof of this is when we dream and we make things we feel are real, but in reality it is just a dream.

On the other hand there are certainly various herbal teas with curative properties such as Oolong tea (green tea), Japanese green tea or black tea. “This”:http://www.herbal-treatment-remedies.com/headache-remedies.html will give you more detailed information regarding other teas available each one with different properties depending on the source of your headache.

Definitely black tea. If you’re not a regular tea drinker, put in a little honey and milk (or vanilla soymilk, like I do) and you will be headache-free and also you will become a regular tea drinker.

Also, as my dad asks whenever I mention a headache, “Have you pooped today?” Go try! It can work wonders for a headache!

Have an orange – then decide.

Make you a glass of whats called “Lean” or Sizzurp” in some circles. It is Sprite mixed with codeine syrup or hydrocodone syrup. It was popularized in Houston Texas Hip Hop circles by DJ Screw who was a fan of the drink and slowed down the music he spun because it sounded cooler on Lean. This style of Houston rap became known as chopped and screwed. Memphis rappers Three 6 Mafia also were fans of the drink and recorded a song called “Sippin on some Sizzurp. Its got good narcotic pain killers in it so I am sure it will help your headache.
