Does anyone have a strange reoccurring dream?

Asked by taytaysafreak (244points) March 3rd, 2011

I do. It’s pretty awful, too.

In my dream, there is always a zombie apocalypse, and it always has to do with the drinking water so a group of survivors and myself find new ways to purify water so it’s safe (in this case, we were filtering our own PEE and drinking it. Why was I dreaming of…what?!)

Normally in my zombie dreams, I have weapons (too many video games, I know.) and I’m usually kicking ass but this one is different.

First of all, I am a female, but my dream usually involves me having sex with Paris Hilton. (EW. EW.) I don’t even care for Paris Hilton, and I never have (I think she’s gross) but for some reason…in this dream. Ugh. What the hell? I never even think of this chick and…weird.

Then I find a good friend of mine who gets REALLY angry at me for not dating him, and when I think about dating him and leaving my boyfriend, I get all hysterical and start crying (but I was okay with having sex with Paris Hilton? o_o) The friend was bribing me with safety and protection from the zombies, and he even said he would let my boyfriend stay. I still refused.

I magically appear in my room, and my boyfriend climbs in through my window. We start…getting a little crazy…and then a zombie crawls through the same window and bites my foot. I immediately get far away from my boyfriend and find the “antidote” which didn’t work, never worked and I was fully aware of it but I inject myself with it regardless and tell him to lock me in the room so I don’t hurt anyone, especially him. He never does. That’s when I wake up.

What’s your weird reoccurring dream?

I have dreamt many times that I hit the back of a white Ford work van and die.
I hate that one :)

Mine was a childhood one and I had the same dream for almost 8 years. It was a very different one and one that I now understand and why I was having it.

I have many, but have a few of them that I have had all my life.
One is that I can fly. just levitate myself above the ground.
The other is that i look out my window and see something threatening and need to rush to the door and lock it. I get to the door and for some reason the lock wont turn to lock.
The 3rd is that I see major jet liners crash. The odd thing is when they occur, there is a plane crash in reality somewhere in the world. Pretty freaky.

I dreamed for years about the farm house I grew up in that we moved from when I was 14. I dreamed my husband and I bought it and restored it sometimes; other times I dreamed I went there and it was gone. It had been sold for a government project and was eventually vandalized and burnt down while waiting for the development funds to come through.

I always have a dream where I am heading to class (either high school or college) and I can never end up finding the freaking class room! The building usually is a maze of hallways and foyers. I get nervous and irritated that I can’t get to class on time. Various events happen during my quest to find the room.

I keep dreaming that people keep asking about recurring dreams. ;-)

I dream about people dreaming about people asking about recurring dreams while dreaming in a dream.

In all seriousness, I have a recurring dream about the house I lived in from the end of elementary school to the start of high school. Growing up, I lived in a total of four houses with my family and have dreamed more than once about all of them, but my time in this particular house was filled with especially important events (including truly falling in love for the first time), and I dream about it often. And always happily.

As a child I had a recurring dream that I was asleep on our living room couch, when a giant green blob would appear to try and eat me. I suppose I’d been hearing people talk about the movie “The Blob” and it carried over into my dreams… At any rate, as the blob was oozing closer to the couch, I’d be paralyzed with fear and then magically, Big Bird and Louis from Sesame Street would appear to save me.

But every single time, Big Bird would grab my feet to drag me off the couch, and Louis would grab my arms. They’d be pulling on me from different directions, and it felt like I didn’t have to worry about the Blob anymore, because Big Bird and Louis were going to rip me in half from pulling so hard in opposite directions. And through the whole dream, I couldn’t speak and I couldn’t move.

It sounds ridiculous now, but as a child it was terrifying. And I woke up in a cold sweat from that stupid dream almost every single night for several years.

I’m a prolific dreamer, and while I can’t say that I have a complete dream that recurs, I do have elements of dreams that recur frequently. Some elements are scary/sad; some are happy; and most are simply neutral. I think of them as bookmarks in my dreams.

I have lots of things that keep popping up in my dreams. As soon as I wake up, I try to write down what I can remember.

1. People from different countries getting together in groups of four, and planning their war strategies against other groups of countries. Whenever they actually fight each other, it’s always in these peculiar looking ruins.
2. A wooden box, usually very ornately designed and beautiful.
3. A small child running up to me, to hand me something that I had lost years ago.
4. Homes I’ve had, except now they either have a very large hole in one wall, or a giant window.

These are a few recurring elements I’ve written down, I have no idea what they could mean.

I rarely remember any of the dreams I have, whoosh & they’re gone. If there is a common theme to those I do recall then it’s more than likely they involve myself…....a naked lady & a large sum of cash. I wonder what it could possibly mean…....

Not lately but I’d certainly like to if the dream involved whipped cream, a pair of handcuffs, various types of fruit, feathers, candle wax, nice music, and a bear skin rug.

@WillWorkForChocolate That’s pretty wild. Ever have it analyzed?

Almost all of my dreams take place in the same world. It’s awesome, really, because I am almost always lucid and I can explore as I please. These locations are also as dynamic as the real world, with changing and evolving characters, seasons, etc.

Some of the more memorable dream locations:

1. A theme park that is situated on a peninsula. There are two haunted houses, a waffle restaurant, a water ride, and some fun houses. Most notably, however, is a minecart-themed rollercoaster set on a little island just off the coast of the peninsula where the parking lot is. I’ve dreamed about this specific part of the theme park so much, that I was actually able to build and photograph a model of it. Eventually, the mine ride closed, the bridge was torn down, and the whole thing was covered in graffiti. Every time I’ve dreamed of the theme park since then, the ride has still been closed.

2. An antique store. I could draw a map of the floorplan, if asked. I remember what is in most of the booths, and the same guy sells books in one of the booths each time. There is a rack with a lot of really old antique guns on it, a hallway that has various crystal containers, a display case with a selection of uranium glass, a case with a lot of random nick nacks, and several dozen other displays. There is also a sign over one of the doors written in Latin, but I can’t remember what it says. I used to know, but I forgot to write it down.

3. A mall. I can also map the floorplan because it never changes. There is a food court with a broken payphone that I have tried to use, and there is a science-type store that sells gems and minerals and microscopes. It eventually closed, but then re-opened in another part of the mall. There is a clothing store where everything is silvery and shiny, and a party supply store that is very cluttered.

4. The “vertical mansions” is a well-off, gated subdivision that I dream about a lot. Most of the houses are extremely tall, but have shallow architectural footprints… kind of like little towers. They are very close together, furnished gloriously, and built with a lot of glass and open overlooks. A guy that “lives” in the subdivision referred to them as “vertical mansions” in several of my dreams, so that’s why I call them that. There is also a huge fountain near the gate to the community.

I have plenty more, but I’ll spare y’all for now. Going to sleep is always an adventure for me because I never know which place I’ll go back to in my dreams.

I have the levitating/flying dream very often, and when I was little (after my father passed away) I would dream he and George Of The Jungle (yes, Brendan Fraser) were fighting over me at a playground my dad often took me to. Brendan would be swinging from vines and grabbing me from the top of a slide and my dad would do anything in his power to take me back. I thought it was awesome and kind of hoped they would befriend each other. O_O

I also dreamt very frequently (also after my father passed) that he would be holding me in his arms as about 15 mickey mouse gloves “walked around” on their two fingers while saying “EAT ME!” in really high pitched voices.

Then again…I was 4 years old so…

I dream my teeth are falling out and wake up in a slight panic wondering if my teeth are loose and about to fall out.

Prosb's avatar

@jgrissett Holy crap! I’ve had that dream scare me awake too! It’s scary as hell, I usually touch my teeth in the dream, and then they just fall back into my throat as though they weren’t attached. O.O”

I have a number of recurring dreams :
1 : I’m being chased by a group of men… I don’t remember their faces and they’re total strangers too. The dream settings change sometimes but the same thing happens… I always manage to escape after a series of hurdles ( like driving a car which I’v never done in real life, but do everytime in this dream). I usually have my siblings with me and I have the same emotion in the dream every time . . . ‘GET them to safety’. Thank goodness we do get away but i’s still weird.

The 2nd: I see snakes in my dreams a lot and they usually want to attack me… I’m petrified and don’t do anything the moment I see it. The same emotion is in my dream: PURE FEAR. They attack, but somehow miss and are unable to harm me.

3rd: This one has actually stopped… but I actually used to have this one EVERY night when I was younger: I’m with my mum on a farm ( she used to take me in reality when I was younger) and there’s a pony in it’s own little stable. Suddenly mum dissapears and so does the pony. I t gets darker and I feel very alone. Suddenly a creepy and VERY eerie whistling starts… the sound is really scary and I feel afraid in the dream. The whistling is coming from the empty stable and I can’t see inside it… it’s become pitch black. Even though the sound scares me it’s strangely enticing and I feel drawn to it, and I step towards the stable. It always used to end there. Creepy I know . . .
thank god I dont have it anymore.

This one summer I would dream every night about going into a really nice restaurant, all dressed up. I’d order dessert, and while I was waiting for it to come I would people watch and lots of crazy things would happen. Just as my dessert was about to come, and I could see the waiter carrying it toward me, I would wake up. It was super frustrating.

I also have a lot of dreams that involve me having to swordfight for someone’s honor, either my own or my trusty companion’s. Actually, that’s a fairly recurring aspect of my dreams as well-having a companion/sidekick. I never remember his/her name, but I’m pretty sure it’s a he, and that one time we were waiting for a train to arrive and he had a Zippo lighter that he would flick open. He’d watch the flame for a second or two, then close it before opening it again moments later. It was very odd, because I knew that he didn’t smoke, but I realized that he always did it, because it was a nervous habit that he had.

I had a dream with him in it last night, and we were traveling in a time machine, like the one in H.G. Wells’ story. I’m pretty sure that I’ve dreamt that before as well.

@Adirondackwannabe No, I never did. And the weird thing is that even in my adulthood, I’ll have that dream once every year or two… But when I have it again, I’m still a child in the dream, and it’s still terrifying to feel like Big Bird and Louis are going to rip me in half while trying to save me from this huge green booger thing. It’s quite funny when I’m awake, but geez.

@Prosb in my teeth falling out dreams, they just wiggle around and then they fall out and i try to put them back in! I think I freak out so much because I had braces when I was a teenager, so my teeth are kind of important and I have an innate fear of losing them…
