What movie have you seen too many times?
Maybe there’s a movie that you loved as a kid…but somehow never grew out of. Maybe it’s a movie that you never wanted to see, but were forced to watch over and over again. Or maybe it’s a movie that was so bad, once was enough. What movie have you seen more times than any other? Does it drive you crazy now? Can you quote all the lines, and are you proud of that fact?

ETA: The Abominable Dr Phibes
Rocky. Though I’m not sure about the message, if there was one. He gets a chance based on race. He trains and trains and trains and just keeps training. He fights and fights and fights and never gives up. He loses.
Independence Day – With Will Smith dragging that dratted alien carcass across the desert.
Free Willy. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
My kids loved these movies and as kids do, watched them over and over and over again.
I’ve seen Fight Club probably 100 times.
That said, it isn’t too many times.
The movie I have seen too many times is the Deer Hunter.
I hate that movie.
I hate it so much that I question whether I am right in hating it so much. People rave about it! So, I give it another chance, and it still sucks! I have sat thru it 4 full times, and several times just watched parts of it on TV. Everytime it sucks.
Some people just don’t get it.
@filmfann lol I don’t think you should watch The Deer Hunter again. It obviously isn’t a great movie for you. :-)
Wizard of Oz
Halloween
Matrix
and Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
lol….um….Every movie I own…or have access too I have most of them memorized…lol
The Goonies. I could watch it over and over again. I loved it as a kid, and I will ALWAYS love it.
I haven’t seen any movie “too many” times.
I have seen Trainspotting way more times than most people would consider sane. Some Like it Hot well over 50 times. Alphaville at least fifteen times,
Heathers
Young Frankenstein
Sixteen Candles
Airplane!
The Hitcher (1996) Rutger Hauer terrified me, but I kept watching, over and over. The finger in the fries, ack!
Valley Girl
Wizard of Oz and It’s a Wonderful Life. Both terrific movies, but boy am I tired of ‘em ;-)
The Lion King. My little sister used to watch it every day and I had to watch it with her. For like a year.
Serial Mom
Ed Wood
Young Frankenstein
Anne Hall
National Lampoon’s Vacation
Starsky and Hutch
Cat on a hot tin roof
Scarface
I’ve seen all these movies way toooo much.
I’m a chronic re-watcher. There are dozens of movies that I can recite every word along with when I’m watching them, and a handful that I can recite without help. It would take me ages to come up with a list. And I don’t think I’ve watched any of them “too many” times.
@Deja_vu I’m watching Ed Wood later tonight for the first time ever.
I’ve seen Inglourious Basterds about 8 times now, and I’m still in love-love-love with it.
Other than that, my family makes it a point to watch My Cousin Vinny and The Princess Bride about once a year. I’ve seen ‘em both an obscene number of times.
Oh, and Dumb and Dumber.
@Deja_vu How could I forget Serial Mom! (love Ed Wood too) and also Drop Dead Gorgeous (great film). We need to watch movies sometime. :)
Holy Grail. I have the whole movie pretty much memorized.
Well, I wouldn’t consider it “too many times” but my hubby probably would:
Princess Bride
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Alice in Wonderland (the Tim Burton version)
Braveheart
Twilight (all 3 so far…shutup!!!!!! :P)
Goonies
Harry Potter (all of them)
Lord of the Rings (all of them)
Pirates of the Caribbean (all of them)
Avatar
Nightmare before Christmas
Phantom of the Opera
Cats
Princess and the Frog
I can quote Princess Bride from beginning to end, I almost can with Monty Python, and I’m halfway there with Alice in Wonderland, LOL!!
I love The Party. I have seen it often and my family would say too many times. I still laugh though so for me there is no too many times for The Party.
A few good men, willy wonka and the chocolate factory and beerfest… All completely different movies, but in my opinion great!!
The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and Ishtar; once was more than enough.
@gailcalled Combining those two movies would be highly entertaining though…
Attack of the Killer Camels?
Sand in your Tomatoes?
Organic Gardening with Dustin and Warren?
All of the Pirates of the Caribbean. My kids like them, but what a load of tripe. Keira Knightley is their only saving grace.
Groundhog Day…It’s just the same thing over and over again!!!! Just kidding, i love that movie. But seriously, I would be happy if I never saw A Christmas Story again…
Fight Club and Saved! Both of those films are brilliant. But like @filmfann said, it hasn’t been too many times yet. I still love them and lend out my copies to anyone who hasn’t seen them. And yes, I can quote them both at length.
Too many to mention, but one that i’ve certainly grown sick of is Jaws. Looks & feels incredibly dated now & whilst the actors all give stand out performances, the “shark” itself is really quite pathetic to behold. I mean, as Spielberg himself said during filming…..“it’s like a giant floating turd.” Yeah, no longer scares the shit out of me Stevie baby.
@ucme It was pretty scary when we first saw it though. Well I was scared. Mind you I slept with the lights on after seeing the Exorcist for about a month. Now that looks lame too.
@Mz_Lizzy I still jump when Ben Gardners head bobs into view from what’s left of his boat. That’s about all though.
You know what I hate… and I don’t watch them often because they freak me out .. dolly movies .. aka .. Chucky .. now they make me jump. I cannot watch dolly movies.
I originally didn’t want to go see Transformers, but now it is my favorite movie of all time. I’ve seen it more than ten times, and never get tired of it.
National Treasure
Hitch
The Wedding Singer
THE IRON GIANT . . . it was a childhood fav and now my baby sister wants to watch it all the time. I swear I’v got all the dialogues memorised by now . . .
The Doom Generation
Return to Oz
Barton Fink
What’s New, Pussycat?
Titanic, Dumb and Dumber, Hairspray
