I folded my job application by accident, what should I do?

Asked by Marchofthefox (787points) March 7th, 2011

I suppose out of nervousness I folded my job application in half; should I fold it into thirds?
I’m applying for Justice just for girls!

Is that against the rules or something?

Well, I’ve heard you’re not really supposed to fold the application to be professional.

So can you make a copy or get a fresh one?

Marchofthefox's avatar

Perhaps; thank you!

Great handle. LOL

Are you mailing the application or turning it in by hand? You can probably download or print a new copy from the company website. If it’s being mailed then it’s usually folded in thirds.

I’m turning it in by hand.
I’m sorry! D:

Depending on the type of ink you printed it with, if it was DuraBrite it shouldn’t run, you could mist the back and use an iron on it and it should come out fairly straight if not all the way out. At least straight enough to make a fresh copy without a line showing.

It seems like no big deal. If it were a high paying corporate job that was in high demand, I could see this being important. But, at Justice they will most likely pay no attention to the fold, and focus more on your credentials and work history within the application.

I wouldn’t be too worried about it.

Fill it out and turn it in.

Let’s put it this way, if they nitpick about that and a place in the mall really shouldn’t then they are probably looking for an excuse not to even interview you. A folded application for retail does not make a difference.

Keep it folded in half. Folding it in thirds will make it have too many folds. There’s nothing wrong with folding an application that you turn in to a business in half or even thirds. Sometimes it stops it from getting dog-eared.

Good luck! I hope you get the job.

Find a copying machine and make a copy of the original and hand it over. Keep the original for yourself.

If you decide to iron it (which was going to be my suggestion), don’t put the iron directly on the paper. Put a folded towel on top of it first to make sure you don’t burn the paper.

But really, I don’t think it’s a big deal that it’s been folded.
