Do you mean which company is better?

They can both kick ass or suck a**. Depends on what kind of Fender or Epiphone you are looking for not to mention what you will be playing it through.

@judochpp
I’m looking at a gibson les Paul and a fender stratocaster.

Gibson and epiphone are different. Remember that. They look similar, but its all in the quality.

Gibson would be my first choice. They bar far rule the roost in sound and quality. Between Epi and Fender though, I’d have to take the Epi. I’m not a big fan of the fender look. Both companys make great sounding and horriable sounding guitars. Just go for something that fits your style and looks good to you.

Not that it should matter for you, but my advice is buy a Gibson if you can afford it, if not take the Epi.

You are really talking a Chevy or Ford kind of question. People will fight to the death over which is better, Fender or Gibson. I owned several Les Pauls and Strats (nothing more recent than mid-80s models) as well as an Epiphone solid body.

First thing, what kind of music will you be playing? You want a classic rock sound, plug a Les Paul into some Marshalls. You can probably get the same sound from an Epiphone. You want more of a blues sound, go with the Strat. I could go on and on… I kept both my Strat and my Paul on stage, working with both during sets. The Epiphone that I had (can’t remember the model) was lighter than the Paul, so it did not have the same wonderful resonance you get with the Pauls.

IF you get an older Strat, I’d recommend getting it rewired, having the control cavity painted with metallic paint – they do like to hum and buzz if the wiring is a bit old, especially if you playing in a venue where the stage electrics are not well grounded.

my favorite company is fender. My tele is amazing. I have a epiphone les Paul ultra and its nice but you can just feel how much cheaper it feels/plays/sounds compared to the fender.

Fender is better than Epipone, you should have said Fender or Gibson. Epiphone are good, but if you compare it to a Fender Stratocaster Deluxe, then it’s a crap.

Fender have a huge history behind their back, and they made guitars for so much legends you know.

so let’s go with Fender my dear!

Man, take the Gibson. They are amazing in quality. In my personal opinion they just look and sound so much better.

Gibson is absolutely incredible for a thick sound. Very low-end and full sounding, but they are very expensive. A good deal on a quality Gibson is in the thousands. I have a Epiphone Les Paul and it’s it been great. Very crisp tones and full sound. Great for the money. Fender has more of a thin sound. Fenders have a very pretty clean sound. I’d go for an Epiphone if you want a heavy low-end instead of a higher thin sound. You need to know what kind of music you’re going to play to answer that question. Also, see what your favorite artists use.

Here’s some info:
The gibson is on a special sale for $400.
The fender is at its original price for $400.
Also, I like to play rock and jazz/blues music.

If you like blues jazz and rock, I don’t know why you would pass up a fender! Some of the greatest blues, jazz, and rock guitaists play fender. I do like Gibson don’t get me wrong but fender is my personal favorite, seeing that I own both.

You should have said Epiphone vs. Fender Mexican. The high end Epiphones are far surperior to the non-USA Fenders, with the exception of the Epis under 400 bucks or so which are more inline with Squiers. As far as Gibson, not worth the money they as for some. With $1000–1500 you can purchase a high end ESP, Fernades or Ibanez that is a professional quality instrument. For that $1000–1500 you get a low end Gibson. You could put the Gibson name on an Epi Les Paul Ultra or Ultra II and 99 out of 100 guitarist could not tell the difference and would swear that the “Gibson” they were playing was awesome. Gibson’s are nice guitars, but a Johnny Winter Firebird is $5000 and a Joe Satriani Ibanez is $1500. And there certainly isn’t $3500 difference in quality.
