Is there a way to directly type Arabic characters into Google Translate?

Asked by srmorgan (6773points) March 9th, 2011

My wife teaches at a middle school and she has a new student from Iraq who speaks almost no English.
My wife has written out questions for this kid in English and translated it into Arabic using Google translate. The child has responded to this very well.
Now my wife wants to let this girl type her assignments in Arabic characters into Google Translate and then convert that into English.

How can she do this?

Any other suggestions about overcoming this problem using another solution is also welcome.

Thanks to all

I think that you would need to get a keyboard for your computer than includes Arabic characters. Otherwise, probably she would need to copy and paste whatever she needs to translate.

I have been able to change the keyboard on my home computer to an Arabic computer using options in Windows 7
.
The issue is with using the school computers where the software options are locked down and one can not make changes to the software configuration.

Nor could we bring an Arabic keyboard into school because it is not school property. As to getting the school to buy one, that would take a while and require payment even though the cost is probably minimal.

Thanks

The network tech should be able to unlock the Arabic software option on at least one computer. We do this all the time with different classes when they get new software from Title I.

We don’t use Arabic, but it should not be hard to do if the school administrators will sign off on it.
They could even tie it to her userid and password. Then it would work on any computer on the system.
