SoCal: Grunion Run?

when I was about 17 or 18, I went with a few friends to the beach. I had heard different tales. Such as it was a hoax. That a guy would say to a girl or his girlfriend, “let’s go watch the grunion run.” just so they could be alone and make out. I remember hearing about it and making my best friend (who happened to be a guy) Gene, take me to Santa monica

Oppss! There were thousands of little 3” to 4” silver fish. The entire beach or coastline was glimmering with silver fish

I would also like anymore information on this.

Its been years since I witnessed a run but recall it was a remarkable sight seeing thousands of little fish struggling to beach themselves. Of course half the fun was staying up late and partying with friends. All in all, a great experience.
