Can I wash my mini blinds in the dish washer?

Asked by boots74 (72points) April 17th, 2008

I have the el cheapo’s for mini blinds. The ones from wal-mart.
Would it be safe to wash them in my dishwasher on the lightest cycle?

Uh… I wouldn’t. It may be a huge disaster resulting in not only having to buy new blinds, but a new dishwasher. Just get a shallow bin that the blinds will fit in (we used to use a kid’s sled) and fill it with warm soapy water. Slosh them around for a while, use a sponge to get the gunk off, and hang them up to dry. It shouldn’t take very long at all.

Yeah, I’d recommend against it as well. They’re probably going to melt, and if they don’t, they may have lead in them (which may contaminate your dishwasher).

ok, thanks…
I guess I’ll have to do it the manual way,
was hoping for a short cut, I hate absolutely hate washing my windows!

I wouldn’t. If you want to take them down and clean them. I would fill up the bathtub and use some soap/cleaner to clean them. You can do this with a towel or a sponge to wash off the dust. Then just hang them out in the sun to dry. It works well.

SUSPEND & RINSE CLEAN

Suspend MiniMaids suction mounted bracket set and dirty mini blind onto a shower wall or take outside and hang from any outside window.

Simply spray the slats with your favorite bathroom tub/tile cleaner or kitchen degreaser that you have on hand (let the cleaning agent work for you), then simply . . .

Rinse the mini blind clean with the shower sprayer or garden hose.
