I’m writing an essay about the causes and effects of Okonkwo’s downfall in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Catchy and clever is best.

Like puns? How about “On Bended Japanese”.
@12Oaks – Um, that doesn’t really work. This is the novel she’s talking about – nothing to do with Japan.
What about a play on the title of the novel? Like “Okonkwo Falls Apart” or even “Okonkwo’s Fall” (as a play on his hanging). Sorry, that’s the best I could come up with :(
The title is a quote from this poem by WB Yeats. Why not use another phrase from it? Several are very famous. Read it and see how much already sounds familiar.
THE SECOND COMING – William Butler Yeats
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
“Aw So, We Still Rein Don’t You Know”.
@Seelix Oh. Just thought Okonkwo was some Japanese city. Never heard of this book so took a stab. Sorry.
@12Oaks: This book is worth reading. It is one of the most celebrated African novels (takes place in Nigeria specifically) and part of the pantheon of books one should be familiar with.
“Things Fall Apart is a milestone in African literature. It has achieved the status of the archetypal modern African novel in English, and is read in Nigeria and throughout Africa. It is studied widely in Europe and North America, where it has spawned numerous tertiary analytical works. It has achieved similar repute in India and Australia.
Considered Achebe’s magnum opus, it has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide. Time Magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005.”
Source.
@12Oaks: No, but just having read the review (thanks for the tip), I am adding to to my reading list. The title may well be a paraphrase from the Yeats’s.
Any suggestions as to which phrase? Preferably something short and to the point.
Actually never mind, I’ve picked one. Thanks for the help!
