What might be wrong with the power option control for my monitor?

Asked by Brian1946 (32638points) March 15th, 2011

I have Windows XP, Home edition; my computer is a 2002 Gateway 500XL; and my monitor is a 22” Samsung that I bought in 2009.

I have my Power Option set so that my monitor turns off after 10 minutes of user inactivity.

The setting works as it should for awhile after I restart my computer, but eventually my monitor is instantly turned on again after the system tries to turn it off.

There’s a known glitch with the mouse. Maybe it’s that.
Or you can check in the bios [ video off method : DPMS ]

Thanks.
I’ll try unplugging the mouse when I’m done to see if that clears the fault.

Do you have a wireless mouse?

No.

I have another plug-in wired mouse that I might try, if unplugging my primary one seems to resolve the problem.

Well you can try turning the mouse upside down and check that too :P
