This quote “With clothes the new are best, with friends the old are best.” prompted me to ponder this question. Most anything I buy I want new….somethings “used” or old are better when you can’ afford new, but some things like friends are best when they have been around for a while. What are some things better new or old and why?

New: a car; old: a house (they built them better 30 to 50 years ago).
I prefer these things old- Cars, Houses, Jewlery, Friends, books, whiskey New- Clothing, electronics.
TVs are better new.
I’m better old! : D
Old: cheese, scotch, dogs. New: puppies, baby smells, electronics.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to appreciate older things like furniture, jewelry, architecture, photos, memories and certainly friends. However, I prefer my electronic gadgets to be new and under full warranty.
New experiences & old wine.

There’s an old song that goes: “Old dogs, little children, and watermellon wine!” : D
‘Distrust any enterprise that requires the wearing of new clothes.”
-Henry David Thoreau
I prefer older cars, anything that has gone wrong has usually been put right. I bought brand new once & had a year of misery…. I also like old houses, with lots of character & period features…. Also my tools, most are older than me….. :-/
I always buy new clothes but quality today isn’t what it once was IMO…….
New:The very first time you kiss someone new. Old The 10001 kiss from a loving S/O.
New carpeting.
Old cotton tee shirts.
Old:
Tablecloths, sheets and other linens (I love heirloom linens),
My favorite cozy sweatshirt that’s got a few holes and “ratty” spots (I stole it from my hubby when we were dating 12 years ago, and it’s still the comfiest sweatshirt ever),
Jeans and tshirts
New:
Houses (floorplans in old homes that I’ve seen don’t appear to flow as well)
Cars
Electronics
And I have to agree with @Adirondackwannabe about kissing someone new. That’s such a special thing that you can never get back. I love that comfortable feeling with my hubby and our “sweet married kisses”, but that first kiss was so tingly and warm and put butterflies in my tummy.
@WillWorkForChocolate That first kiss is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.
Old: art, denim trousers, friends, memories, money, myths, trees, wisdom, worries,
New: excuses, income, flowers, food, pastimes, romances, solutions, understanding,
Why, would be superfluous.
New clothes are fine but I feel more comfortable in old.
Old: cars, movies, record player (scratches, skip), my dog, Levi jeans, army jackets, jewelry, tv shows
New: electronics, experiences through the eyes of my children, every new day with my husband
@adironadckwannabe: excellent answers!
@flutherother New clothes are great and look great but nothing IMO beats the feeling of an old pair of jeans and big ol sweat shirt!
Old-school soul music, old giant pine, cedar and evergreen forests, old dogs, old jeans, old recipes handed down through the generations, old faithful pots and pans that you’ve had forever and use every day, old memories of family and friends, old Xmas ornaments, the old neighborhood where you grew up, old photographs, old people that you meet in the grocery store, old movies from the 30’s and 40’s, old attics full of neat stuff.
New fresh music from amazing bands, new socks and undies, a new box of baking soda, new cooking gadgets and mixing bowls, new recipes that you’ve discovered online or have been given by friends and relatives, new modern fully equipped motor-homes, new vegetarian restaurants near your house, new photos of the babies, renewal of marriage vows or declarations of love, new houses with amazing kitchens and great rooms, newly discovered places to camp and hike.
Wine is best old while Chinese food is best new!
younger women, older whiskey, faster horses, and more money.
Old: Well-worn rocking chairs, the kind that get passed down from one generation to another. (I have one in my office, it was my dad’s chair.
New: Hydrangeas, the kind from my mother’s garden. Deep colors. Absolutely, beautiful.
@janbb dunno myself. Ask Kenny Rogers.
Or was it older horses, younger whiskey, more women and fast money?
