This is mine. Alfred Hitchcock: Music from His Films. I picked it up in New York City from a little, Jewish lady in a store by NBC studies. She loved it, and we got talking about old Hollywood. She got to hang out with Judy Garland, back in the day.
The cd is from the MoMA.
Very relaxing..
(cue shower scene) weet..weet…weet!!

The soundtrack to Immortal Beloved is really good. I confess, I’ve never seen the movie, but my piano teacher let me borrow the soundtrack and it’s got all the classics on there.
Also, Garden State has a very memorable soundtrack.
I hope you didn’t mean strictly original soundtracks :X
I have quite a few:
Braveheart
The Last of the Mohicans
Practical Magic
Miss Saigon (although it’s more of a Broadway soundtrack instead of movie…)
And all of the Twilight soundtracks have great music. Please don’t shoot me for mentioning Twilight!
John Williams music in HOOK has always been a good one for me.
But my winner is Berstein’s music in West Side Story
My favorite set of soundtracks is from the TV series Battlestar Galactica. It’s got quite a diverse set of sounds, but every song is perfect in it’s own way. I listen to them all the time.
A few of my favorite tracks: 1, 2, 3.
That’s a tough one. I can’t say one favorite, but I like mostly anything by Hans Zimmer or James Horner. Some notables are:
Willow
Braveheart
Gladiator
Troy
The Last Samurai
I also like the OST for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy
I like the soundtrack to The Patriot a lot, which is just about the only thing I like about that movie. However, music makes up about 60% of my opinion on movies, so I come away with positive thoughts about it anyway. It’s difficult to be sure if it’s my favorite, but I remember the soundtrack, because if not for it then I would probably hate the movie.
Daft Punks AMAZING soundtrack for Tron Legacy.
@J0E I completely forgot how amazing that soundtrack was! It was one of the few things that totally kicked ass about that movie..
Hans Zimmer is fantastic. My favorite is the soundtrack for Crimson Tide.
For the past year or so it’s been the soundtrack from Crazy Heart.
“Queen of the Damned”... Funny I don’t really even listen to that type of music but every song on the soundtrack is awesome.
Also “Dirty Dancing”!
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
“The Host of Seraphim” from the album The Serpent’s Egg ;Dead can dance.
Here I love this track……. :-/
The Phantom of the Opera. (Stage, not film.)
@jonsblond – I love that soundtrack too!
The soundtrack from The Secret of Roan Inish.
Here is the main theme and here is the Selke Song and another cut.
My Fair Lady &
Oh,Brother Where are Thou?
Even thought the movie is “meh,” the soundtrack to Silent Hill is pretty cool. Though technically, it used most of the soundtrack from a few of the games.
Lost Highway has a great soundtrack, especially Lou Reed’s cover of This Magic Moment that features prominently in the film. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Lovely Bones, and Where The Wild Things Are all have good soundtracks too. I say that because I’m really a huge hipster.
Hard choice:
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Rocky Horror
Sister Act
Titanic
Funny Girl
A Star is Born (the Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson version sorry Judy)
Yentl
Burlesque
Mermaids
Loads of Disney films
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Showboat
The King and I
There’s probably so many more…
I second any Hans Zimmer soundtracks. Inception or The Dark Knight, for example.
I forgot to include the scores for:
Pirates of the Caribbean
Alice in Wonderland (the newish one)
Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter
Star Wars (the original movie, whatever number that is) by John Williams, the theme and the Imperial March Darth Vader’s theme and the Cantina song.
Jurrasick Park by John Williams is also pretty phenomenal especially the theme
Not really a soundtrack, but I love the Star Trek themes from the Original Series Movie, TNG, Deep Space Nine and Voyager.
The sound track for the John Adams miniseries (starring Paul Giamatti), especially the theme
And the East of Eden theme song by Lee Holdridge which you can hear in this lovely performance by Michelle Kwan
The theme for Legends of the Fall
The theme for Memoirs of a Geisha perfomed by Yo-yo ma.
The original theme music from the TV series Monk by Jeff Beal as well as the newer theme song by Randy Newman and the last song from the series also by Randy Newman
And for those of you who might recall this nifty show from the early 80’s the theme song from the TV show The Day’s and Nights of Molly Dodd
A lot of my favorites are already listed (I gave you all lurve!) but I would add Easy Rider and Woodstock.
Oh – Just thought of another one A Walk on the Moon. Great 60s music soundtrack!
I’ve been giving this question a little more thought too today & come up with my all time top soundtracks, in no particular order… :-/
Blade Runner
Trainspotting
The Italian Job
Deliverance
Reservoir Dogs
The Magnificent Seven
A Fistful Of Dollars
@marinelife, yeah I totally cried my eyes out at the scene when they played This Mortal Coil’s cover of Song to the Siren. It was pretty cool how they integrated The Cocteau Twin’s Alice in there too. All the 70’s music was great, of course, too.
Just finished watching Zombieland. I always forget about this soundtrack when asked about my favorite soundtrack. Love this one.
I always loved the Beaches sound track
Oh & this too, I nearly forgot! :-/
