Do you think Karl Pilkington is more likely a comedic genius or an idiot?
If you’re unfamiliar with him, see “The Ricky Gervais Show” or “An Idiot Abroad.” He’s hilarious, but I can’t tell if he’s doing it on purpose or is just so simple-minded that he appears funny. I’m leaning towards genius. What do you think and why?

@filmfann See, I’m pretty sure he knows that’s totally hilarious and just has amazing delivery.
Neither. But he is something of a lifeboat for the ‘creatively sinking’ Gervais and Merchant.
And well remunerated for his trouble, no doubt.
I used to think this guy might be a comic genius, but time did not bear me out.
He’s not an idiot. Idiots don’t ponder about things like Pilkington does. or do they?
I love the guy.
I don’t think he’s an idiot. I believe he really does think like that—very literal, very linear, very much a realist. I also think sometimes he does put it on a little because he knows it’ll push Ricky’s buttons. He’s got a sense of humor and really does have good ideas—and he’s a great, funny poet.
@cockswain According to the interviews I’ve seen on TV with Ricky, Karl is his friend, and he legitimately thinks like this, talks like this and lives like this.
I think he has a sense of humor, and as @theninth said, he pushes Ricky’s buttons on purpose, but I don’t think he’s an idiot. It’s just how Karl’s brain functions.
