Where can I download interesting lectures for my iPod?

Asked by cockswain (15286points) March 18th, 2011

I know I sound kind of crusty asking this, but I’ve never downloaded a podcast before. Specifically, I’d like to listen to lectures on subjects like economics, politics, any science, or just anything intelligent and interesting as I go to sleep. Where is a good place to find these? I just created a subscription to podcast.com, but they haven’t sent the confirmation email.

iTunes U offers actual lectures from top-notch universities. Alternately, checkout iTunes podcasts for less formal presentations.

Excellent, thanks. I didn’t think to look at iTunes because I assumed it wouldn’t be free. I did just find openculture.org, and that looks pretty awesome.

Almost all podcasts through iTunes are free. Some you may enjoy (just look them up in the iTunes Store)-

Planet Money
The Naked Scientists
Nature Podcast
Point of Inquiry
Pulse of the Planet
Science Friday
Science Magazine
Science Update
Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe
Skeptoid
This American Life
60-Second Science

Yeah, I was just browsing through those. I found another great one called librivox.org, and I just downloaded “Notes From the Underground” as an audiobook. I’ll finally be able to listen to all those great books I was too lazy to read.

The Stuff You Missed series is interesting. Interesting talks on all kinds of subjects!

Is it this link? Are they all history talks? So far that’s all I’ve found. Not that I don’t also enjoy history.

If you go here you’ll see lots of subjects. And you can look for them under audio podcasts on the iTunes store. They are free.

Cool, thanks. I discovered “How Stuff Works” about 10 years ago. Glad to see they’re doing podcasts now.
