Another vote for Heathers :)
Ghostbusters or Ferris Buellers Day Off
I agree with @Lightlyseared about Ferris Bueller. I’d forgotten about that one. It’s very funny. Plus you’ll get to see where the douche-bag that is Charlie Sheen got his start. And you will get to see Jennifer Grey (pre-nose job, she actually looks much better with her original nose, she was quite the hottie, not that she isn’t pretty now, it’s just that you wouldn’t recognize her).
Pretty in Pink is pretty good too. Especially Jon Cryer (in his first role, I think) as Ducky.
And Sixteen Candles is extremely funny, especially the part of Long Duk Dong played by Gedde Watanabe. His lines have been repeated many times by me and my brother. And there is a really funny scene of some geeks trying to crash a party, and you just might recognize some of them. But I won’t give it away.
Lost boys, Goonies, Breakfast Club, Ferris Buellers day off, Dirty Dancing, and ET of course.
Mommy Dearest was a hoot. Back to the Future, of course. All three of them. The Breakfast Club, despite a few flaws. Remo Williams; The Adventure Begins was also really funny, despite the fact that the adventure also ended with the same movie.
@12Oaks I totally forgot about Mommy Dearest, my sister and I used to watch that movie all the time. My mom once scared the crap out of us recreating the no more wire hangers scene! Good memories!
An Officer and a Gentleman….Not since the Graduate have I cheered more for the guy finally getting his gal! I love movies like that! ;)
Either The Empire Strikes Back or Evil Dead 2
A Fish Galled Wanda cracked me up.:)
I also loved My Left Foot
then there was ET…
I’m going to go with Trading Places. Funny movie, plus an added bonus is you get to see Jamie Lee Curtis’s honkers…...nice :¬)
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. There’s a lot of movies from then that I’ve not seen yet, though.
Ohhh, another great 80’s movie is Ghost.
Liquid Sky . Creepiest, can’t-stop-watching-est 80s movie ever. good luck finding it.
Ghostbusters and The Thing.
I loved it when that guy’s stomach turned into a shark mouth, and when Kurt Russell yelled “Fuck you!” to the last monster in “The Thing”.
@Brian1946 The Thing is my favorite horror film. Love the soundtrack for it.
So many…
Blade Runner, Back to the Future, Highlander, Top Gun, Indiana Jones
Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Heavy Metal, Nightbreed
@Seelix The Secret of NIMH was a great movie!!!
16 Candles, Breakfast Club, Fast Times at Ridgmont High, and Dirty Dancing
I can’t think of the real answer tonight, but off the top of my head, some good ones:
The Road Warrior
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Repo Man
Oh, I might say Diva, or Brazil, but I need to watch that one again to know.
Some other good 80’s films:
Aliens
Being There
Das Boot
And I liked:
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Wrath of Khan
The Terminator
Another possible favorite:
The Jerk
I’ll say Diva is the best of those, not having given Brazil a recent enough re-view.
The most re-watchable of those for me would probably be Raiders of the Lost Ark, though, so in that sense it might be my favorite of those.
My top 20 80’s movies:
1.Raiders of the Lost Ark
2.Blade Runner
3.Aliens
4.Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
5.Return of the Jedi
6.Field of Dreams
7.This Is Spinal Tap
8.Ghostbusters
9.The Empire Strikes Back
10.Brazil
11.The Road Warrior
12.The Shining
13.The Thing
14.The Terminator
15.Robocop
16.The Naked Gun
17.Who Framed Roger Rabbit
18.Amadeus
19.Ferris Buellers Day Off
20.Scrooged
@filmfann Didn’t like Temple of Doom? Seems to be missing from your list, as the other two Indiana Jones movies are on it. I have to see this Blade Runner thing…. it seems to be on a lot of lists here, and I never heard of it despite being a kid of the 80s.
I’m really surprised no one has said the movies I heard about all the time in the 80s: Terms of Endearment, Platoon, Wall Street, Full Metal Jacket and Tootsie. I know I was too young to appreciate those films when they came out, but I like them today. I’m also surprised no one mentioned Say Anything or Dirty Dancing, two films I finally saw in the 00s, and thought, “Meh.”
@Neizvestnaya, I forgot The Grifters. That was a fantastic movie.
And Spinal Tap! Love.
Ferris has been superseded now.
So many great 80’s movies. My personal favorites:
Ghostbusters
The Karate Kid
The Goonies
Lucas
The Breakfast Club
Gremlins
Videodrome
Dead Ringers
Raising Arizona
Oh oops, The Jerk was 1979.
