When do red marks from acne start fading?

Asked by wrestler125 (11points) March 21st, 2011

I have been on accutane for 5 months I’m going onto 6. I understand my skin is more sensitive and I use moisturizer a lot. I don’t have too much acne anymore but I have a lot of noninflammatory red marks from where the acne used to be. Does someone know how long it will take formy skin to balance? And also if anyone knows and tips or tricks to make the process go faster I would love to know. I also would love it if someone told me what not to do such as go in the sun.

Wel if you usually just leave it alone, and clean it with warm water, and a face cloth every morning and every night, it goes away in a week… depends on how bad the inflammation is… i have a bit of acne as well and if i don’t touch my face, it goes away in a couple days… if you want to spend some dough, try getting proactive. but in order for that to work you need to use it religiosly.

I went through the accutane treatment as well. Hell, isnt it? My lips became so rediculously dry while on that, they were constantly cracking and all this other horrible stuff. Felt like I had sand in my eyes all the time.

Anyway, to answer your question, for me, it took a couple months after treatment was complete. I used acutane about 5 years ago and to this day only get pimples every once in a blue moon (would probably be never if i took better care of my skin) and I used to have really really bad acne.

That depends on your skin type and your body’s ability to heal itself. I have fair skin, and my acne marks used to take 6 months to a year to fade completely (but they did go away). Now it doesn’t take that long because I apply pure tea tree oil to the blemishes, which helps them heal faster. However, I would ask the doctor before using this remedy, just in case it reacts badly with the acutane.

In my experience, and I am very fair, the color of your skin might influence how long it takes? When I have redness from injury it takes 6 months to a year for it to fade. I have several friends who did accutane, and it really worked well for them, except one believes it negatively affected her digestive system, she feels she had a bad side effect.
