How to get text to jump to Google search bar when I open a new tab?
On Firefox 3.6, when I opened a new tab, the text I would type would immediately start to type in the Google search page that would pop up. Now with Firefox 4, the type doesn’t jump to the search bar, and stays in the address bar. I’m using the add-on “New Tab Homepage”.
Does anyone know how to tweak this?

I’m not sure what to do about that, but my advice would be to switch to Google Chrome. In Chrome anything you type in the address bar that isn’t a web address automatically turns into a Google search. It’s really convenient.
@Aqua The same is true for Firefox, as long as it’s not a website address that you’re typing. I find the search bar in the top right-hand corner a bit redundant…
@buckyboy28 It sounds like the add-on manually restores focus to the address bar after it has loaded a website, which would’ve been the behaviour if it wouldn’t have loaded the tab. You might want to check the preferences of the extension, but if I scan through the reviews it seems like this is a commonly experienced bug. You might want to contact the developer to ask if he wants to fix it, because it looks like he hasn’t looked at the extension for a while but is willing to fix issues.
Meanwhile, though, you can do as mentioned above and just use the address bar as search field.
I don’t especially recommend it but FreeSound community toolbar has a setting that does just that. Other specialty toolbars may also, as that is one way of data mining your computer use.
