How to get text to jump to Google search bar when I open a new tab?

On Firefox 3.6, when I opened a new tab, the text I would type would immediately start to type in the Google search page that would pop up. Now with Firefox 4, the type doesn’t jump to the search bar, and stays in the address bar. I’m using the add-on “New Tab Homepage”.
Does anyone know how to tweak this?
