@janbb Thanks. For thise who wonder, I originally had the word spelled “euphamism” but the Moderators spanked me for that. They pushed it to editing where I corrected it, leaving @janbb‘s answer rather stranded. My fallback is that no less a master of English language than Mark Twain observed, “I have no respect for a man who can spell a word only one way.”
@picante, @blueiiznh, @wundayatta & @CaptainHarley Thanks. I knew my foggy,morning mind just wasn’t cranking up to speed.
@ETpro You are a gentleman and a scholar to unstrand me!
I don’t think any of the suggestions so far quite work and I am trying to think of one. A euphemism is in reality a more polite alternative for another word but I can’t think of a more concise way to say that.
I’m tempted to say “being indirect”, but this misses the point that euphemisms are often commonly understood, by both parties, to point directly to the referent and can be easily misunderstood by one not initiated into the code, i.e. a non-native speaker.

I came across “circumlocution” when looking up dictionary definitions and that is a possible, but not quite accurate, synonym.
Honestly, @janbb… you can be so circumlocutious! ; )

No, it’s a plate of cookies! : P
LOL!
@janbb Indeed. I’ve been handing out GA points knowingly for answers with no claim to greatness save giving me a chuckle. It is knot an easy word two find a true euphemism four. While my spelling may bee creative (lousy) aye dew no what the words eye use mean.
I do appreciate the thought of circumlocution though. Love that word.
@ETpro I never doubted that ewe new its meening.
Oh, GROAN! That’s not very punny! : P
