How does one get a light covering of spraypaint off treated wood?

Asked by Jonsonite (111points) April 18th, 2008

The wood in question is standard deck wood—presumably it’s treated. It’s not very much paint—any ideas?

How much surface area are we talking?

Jonsonite's avatar

maybe six inches by six inches.

Is it delicate, like an antique? If not, I would think something like this. It shouldn’t hurt the wood.

There’s one that says ‘graffiti remover.’ I’ve used it. It works and you can most likely find it at the local hardware store, or order it.

Thanks! It’s not particularly delicate—is there a household item that would approximate that product?

Umm, do you mean something you might have? Paint thinner, maybe. You can always sand it off.

Have you tried just paint thinner? If it’s not to delicate, that may be able to take it off.

Dang peedub! Foiled my plan to tell ‘em first! Oh well, GA for you, sir. =D

Sorry Rand. I give you cred.

I almost said lighter fluid, but I was thinking surf wax.

Lighter fluid! Good call. That might actually work. Just be careful for a while if you grill or have any flame/coals in the area, of course.

Probably the best way would be to sand it down but then you’d have to possibly revarnish or stain and all that jazz. That’s the only true 100% fix I can think of at the moment though.

Thanks, guys! I’ll look into those options.
