Is Fluther for "westerners" Americans only? Or is it truly a place of free speech that welcomes all in aide to discuss ?
Fluther will not become a clique site will it?
No little groups of solidarity joining together due to weakness or fear?
I wish on all that is good and true that Fluther can remain neutral in these pressing days of propaganda and let everyone be heard.
We need you .

I have not felt it was for Americans only or that people from the US had the lock on questions asked or answers made. If it appears that way it maybe because more Americans have PCs and other ways to access Fluther plus cheaper connection minutes, etc.
At times it don’t seem as neutral as it could be, there seem to be certain Jellies that align very similar in belief or idea, but I hope we can all be heard and even with opposing views we will remain civil and tolerant of those views and ideals that are different.
Fluther is an English language site. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a question posed in another tongue.
Whether or not it becomes a “clique” site depends on the users rather than the site itself.
Most of the Jellies are in the US, true, and it’s owned and run by Yanks, but we have a number of very active international members. It’s an English speaking site, so that limits the membership a bit, but I haven’t noticed that it’s a specifically Yankee-centric place to hang out. I noticed the phrase “free speech” in your Q; because it’s a privately owned and moderated site there are always some users that feel they are being censored if they can’t say anything they want regardless of consequences, and because humans participate there will always be some little groups that form and on occasion seem to dominate, but I’ve never seen any indication that all users of any nationality are not welcome.
It’s more like a tidal pool than an ocean but it is refreshingly liberal.
Welcome to all i’d have thought….....“but we don’t want the Irish!” Now before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, that was a direct quote from Blazing Saddles. You know, humerous intent.
Apparently, @SeaTurtle , you have some bone to pick with Fluther as evidenced by your last 3 answers listed on your profile page. Something you want to share? Or are you just angry because something you said got moderated in a way you believe was unfair? The chances are pretty good that you’re not actually feared, a bit arrogant and just plain silly of you to assume so…
FYI, the remark I linked to has been modded out (wisely) so the link now makes no sense.
Mellow J. It’s not worth getting upset.
But if this is supposed to be a bashing thread I want the food part to start soon! XP
Pizza and wings tonight or subs?
Sorry mods.
I still need my coffee for today. I’m thinking Dunkin Doughnuts
Oh, yes, I’m in for the Dunkin Doughnuts. Chocolate covered with cream filling.
@syz There’s an orchard on the NY side of Lake Champlain that makes the most amazing doughnuts. We had six, they didn’t make it to the car. We had to go back for more.
^^I hope the dog got one.
Do you feel a little bad for hijacking this thread?
Although it is for free speech.
Um yes… ::hangs head, shuffles feet:: leaves thread since I don’t have anything useful to add.
All are welcome, there are just guidelines that must be followed. There are a lot of people that share views on many topics, but I personally don’t think it’s a clique thing.
Donuts sound delicious. Now I’m hungry. Darn pregnancy and it leading to easily craving things. Good thing there is a Dunkin Donuts right up the street.
Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!!!
Really fabulous homemade mac and cheese for breakfast, maybe a tiny Reeses Cup for dessert?
@JilltheTooth I made mac and cheese with provelone, cheddar, parm, and mozzerella the other day. Friggin amazing.
Try it with tortellini sometime…adds a whole new dimension of yummytude!
The majority of the regulars here are American, that’s true. And I realize that as a Canadian I’m not exactly all that culturally different from most of the regulars, but the difference in worldviews does make itself apparent to me at times. When that happens, I say so, and give my reasons for disagreeing with whatever point has been made.
I like to think that we’re welcoming to people of all cultures. There are guidelines that have to be followed, and as Fluther is an English-language site, that means proper English spelling and grammar. That may make the site less accessible to people of other cultures, but if they can’t speak English, why are they here anyway?
I don’t think Fluther is cliquey. It’s a community like any other, and a new member of the community may feel a little left out at first, but that’s only natural and not due to any cultural sway. I felt “new” when I first joined, but that quickly changed as the other Jellies got to know me and my personality. Being a newbie doesn’t mean you’re being left out – you just don’t know anyone yet.
Stick around, though – we’d like to get to know you.
@Seelix : You were new? Nah, not believing it.
@JilltheTooth Seelix is more like an old hockey glove. Smelly but comfortable. (I don’t know why I say this stuff. It just comes out.)
You’re working too hard, and getting wonkier and wonkier. It’s kinda cute.
I’m totally wonked out today. I need the rubber room! See my spelling of provolone.
^Just thought it was a new cheese.
<—- Zuppy says: Cheese? Did someone say cheese? I love cheese! <jumps up and down woofing and wagging>
You do realize Seaturtle is putting a price on our heads? As I wag and woof. Cheese!!!
I quake in my little boots. ;-P
Fluther is a place for everyone to have a voice, not just “Western Americans”. It sounds as though you’re upset about something, would you care to explain what got your panties in a twist?
Umm… guys… anyone for Chinese takeout?
Aww, I’m smelly. I had a shower last night and I’ve been doing laundry since yesterday, so I’m workin’ on it :)
Well we all lurve @Seelix, smell and all! :P
Gotta love Canadiens, chocolate, and cheese.
Edit: And Zuppy
I’m a stinky Chupacabra – deal with it!
Chupacabra? Don’t you mean Worgen? :D
@Seelix : Zuppy likes smelly. Smelly is good.
As far as I know, anyone from anywhere is welcome here, as long as you understand English. That is a limitation perhaps, but not one that should be attached to the idea of cliques or freedom of speech or anything.
To get back on thread, what is your issue OP?
[mod says] You appear to be under the impression that we’re attempting to suppress your views, but I assure you that we are not. There is room for all points of view, here. You just have to meet the guidelines while expressing those views. It really is that simple.
What am I missing? All I see is a legit question in the Meta section @augustlan . Why did nearly everyone (with the exception of the first few answer posters) take the approach that was taken on answering this question. Especially you @augustlan, as a mod I mean, say it appears the OP thinks their views are being supressed. What the heck did I miss?
@bkcunningham : The OP had a number of posts (that have been since modded off) on other threads about how s/he wasn’t allowed to speak and how his/her views were “feared” here. It was all rather silly and reminiscent of others who have been modded and felt they were being stifled.
Oh, I figured as much, but didn’t want to just make assumptions. Thanks a bunch @JilltheTooth for clarifying.
They don’t mod you if you do wrong…..they just hold your Gold Ingot hostage Ha Ha Ha (sarcasm: the dish best served very dry)
There was a nice woman that some people were debating with; I was under the impression she was just asking a question out of curiosity, until she essentially stated terrorism is OK if the victim offends your religion…..Sooooooo, sometimes you can’t tolerate that shit lol.
