So it's your first date with someone. You agree to meet up at a place. You arrive early, what's the etiquette?

If it’s a restaurant, do you wait up front? Get a table for two and make sure you’re facing the door?
If it’s a bar or coffee shop, do you sit down and order a drink? Is that rude?
What’s the first date etiquette?

I’ve always waited outside and greeted them with a hug and a friendly “nice to meet you” if it’s the first time I’m actually meeting them in person. This has never caused problems for me. Then again, I’m 21 and nobody my age really gives a shit about formalistic protocols anyway.
I usually situate myself (get a table or a seat at the bar) and send a text letting him know where to find me.
I would be at a table facing the door.Or at a table near a door to make a quick dash for it if it is a blind date gone wrong ;)
I get wasted and have them pick me up at my house. Hi Nikipedia :-)
I wait outside, or just in the door, depending on the location.
I should have known! That chest hair quip was gold.
I would get a table and order a drink and wait patiently.
If coffee or a bar I get a drink and either a table or wait at the bar near the dorr so I can see the person as they enter. I will also text a quick note to let them know I am there and where I am so they can find me easily.
Proper etiquette first lies within you wearing a pair of fast track shoes. If your date is “not as advertised”, but rather “as is”, you can make a beeline out the exit door.
Following on from @john65pennington, just in case you can’t get to the door, use the time before they arrive to check out whether you can fit through the windows in the loo.
