Mac mini instead of apple tv?
I’m reading some are using a mac mini as a media. Can thus be true?

It depends what you would like to do. If you’re looking to rent movies on the iTunes Store through Front Row using the remote, then choose an Apple TV. If you would like to be able to play DVDs through the same device, choose a Mac Mini. If you want to be able to attach your device to a HD television, then choose an Apple TV.
Give me a quick list of the things you would like your media centre to do, and I’ll be able to advise.
so I can’t rent movies through mini. I can rent movies on my iMac through iTunes and mini is nothing more than a small mac. Am I missing something? As for me I have a HD tv. Yes I would lime to stop giving my Money to blockbuster(I hear they feeling the heat) and begin streaming my movies rent or bought tru my computer
You can rent movies on a Mac Mini, just not through Front Row (you have to go through iTunes with a keyboard or mouse) so it doesn’t make for a good TV companion. The great thing about the Apple TV is that you can do everything with the remote, so it will really blend in with your setup. Also, the graphics card in a Mac Mini doesn’t support a high enough resolution output to get the most out of your HD television. The Apple TV will allow you to plug a HDMI cable right into the back and get going.
Looking at your situation, I would say go with an Apple TV. It’s a little cheaper too, so you can use the leftover cash to buy some more really great sofa cushions and a bean bag. Have fun.
Great facts and advice thanks a bunch. One other thing. Would it be great if apple tv also played DVD or even Blue Ray. I would be all over that. Thanks again
I would really love for them to add something like that, I could throw away all the other things I’m having to use. No worries.
