My wife began smoking an electronic cigarette, about two weeks ago. Sorry to say, its had no effect on her and her desire to quit smoking. I believe it comes in two strengths, light and regular. She has tried both with no luck. She states they are safer than regular cigarettes.

Wish I could tell you more, but I suspect this gadget will wind up in a drawer, just like all her other gizmos to stop smoking.

Other jellies have good things to say about them and they are certainly healthier. There’s no smoke going into your lungs.

The jury is still out as there are those that are saying that there are strange chemicals in there and the FDA hasn’t really formed a solid, indisputable opinion one way or the other yet, and many other places have based their decisions on the FDA’s non-findings, so the actual truth is unknown.

I know that I hack up less now and haven’t had the overwhelming urge to kill anyone since I got mine, though the fact that I smoked American Spirit which has about twice the nicotine of, say, a Marlboro means that I have to use the strongest cartridge they make for mine in order to keep me under control.

I tried cold turkey a few times and withing three day, someone (usually my wife) was practically forcing a cigarette into my mouth before I got violent. E-cigs stopped that, so they do work.

Downside: It apparently might explode in your mouth, costing you part of your tongue: http://www.myfoxorlando.com/dpp/news/state_news/021512-electric-cigarette-explodes-in-mouth-ncx
