What makes some copier paper "hang" in my printer?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) March 28th, 2011

I have a brand new Epson printer. It works great, except for some copier paper it rejects. I ran out of paper and went to Dollar General Store for more. My printer has totally rejected it and has caused many “hangups”. Not believing it was the copier paper, I replaced it with GeorgiaPacific paper. It was like the difference between daylight and dark. Question: is all copier paper not the same?

Not the same. Texture, finish and how stiff the paper. All reasons the paper is different also some paper have more loose fibers ( READ DUST )

Cheaper grades of paper will react more to the humidity in the air, absorbing slightly more water vapor. Differences in thickness which you may not even be able to detect yourself will result and can cause the jams you’re experiencing and describing. (It also helps to load the printer with less than a full stack of paper as you move into the more humid time of year, so that it has less chance to be exposed to humidity and absorb water vapor. Keep the unused paper wrapped in its original wrapper, which helps to protect it.)

You may not have had any problems with the cheaper paper over the winter because of lower humidity, but it’s getting to be that time of year in your part of the country. (Using the printer in an air conditioned room will also help.)

Dollar Store=Low quality.

Check the weight of the two papers, or look in the manual for the printer.

Cheaper paper can sometimes be picky about which edge you feed into the printer first.
