Severe menstrual cramps or something else?
So each month my menstrual cramps seem to get a little worse, but always bareable. But this month I was just sitting here and it was like I was stabbed in the stomach. My cramps had started but they are worse than ever before. They hurt all the way up my stomach and all the way down into my legs and my whole back. I can’t even stand up and advil and all that doesnt work anymore. I am not a crier and i have a high pain tolerance but these cramps definetely make me cry.
So do you think that these are just severe cramps or could it be something else, if so, what else could it be?
Also do you know anything that could help at least ease the pain?
Thanks!

Try chamomile tea. I have debilitating cramps, and that tea helps me more than prescription pain medication and muscle relaxers. Honest.
Definitely make an appointment with your ob-gyn, there are many, many reasons that you could be having more pain than usual. Best to have it checked out.
Fish oil supplements on a daily basis are supposed to help. Sorry it will not do you much good today.
Dysmenorrhea is a form of severe menstrual pain. It can be due to other conditions, or it can be seemingly for no reason at all. Get yourself checked out – it could be something simple, like you’re just, unfortunately, a crampy person and your doctor might prescribe naproxen (Anaprox, Aleve), or it might be something more serious.
In the meantime, try chamomile, like @ANef_is_Enuf suggested, and if that doesn’t help, try Aleve. It’s available over the counter in Canada and the US, and really helps my cramps, though they’re not as bad as yours sound. Make sure to follow the directions, though.
Caffine can make cramps worsen, try avoiding caffine if at all possible around that time and drink more water

Chamomile tea, ibuprofen or naproxen and an appointment with your gynecologist if this happens next month or the month after. Severe cramps can be the sign of a few things and you should get it checked.
Could you possibly be having a miscarriage?
Maybe its appendicitis? Talk to your doctor.
It could be entometriosis. You need to talk to your gynecologist right away so you can find out what is going on.
Pub Med
See the doctor, as others have recommended. There could be something that needs treatment. If nothing’s abnormal, several things can provide relief, as others have mentioned. One good cramp-reliever not mentioned yet is orgasm, which is a lot more fun than tea and pills :>)
You really need to go to a gynecologist. I had SEVERE cramps and I was told I had ovarian cysts. I still get them from time to time and I have pain that paralyzes.
I don’t think you mentioned your age. Many women have bad cramps when they are very young. It is true it might be endometriosis, but what I recommend before you run to the doctor is ibuprofen. I know others said this above. If you weigh less then 110 take two (200 mg) with food, can be a few crackers or whole meal, and a glass of water. The cramps should get much better in 50 minutes. If you weigh over 110 take three.
Take them every 6 hours while you have cramps. Are your cramps longer than 48 hours?
Are the cramps dead center or towards one side?
Also, is there any chance you are pregnant?
Pain towards the sides can be a life threatening emergency if you are sexually active. Although, you said this is reoccuring monthly, so likey it is just bad cramps.
I’m going to tell you, I had this happen to me, and when I went to the doctor, she told me I had a 4inch tumor growing in my Uterus :/ I have always had bad cramps, I have always bled more than usual, but one day, suddenly, the pain was worse than ever before. I had this HORRIBLE shooting pain that went down to my legs and foot. When ever I moved a muscle, it felt like my insides were ripping apart. It just felt horrible.
So please, go get it checked out! She gave me a birth control to stop my period, and so far so good. I have no more pain so long as I am on it. I just have to consider having it removed with surgery one day which is weighing heavy on my mind. The sooner you find out the better!
Because it seems to be getting worse, you should make an appt with your gynecologist right away. It could be fibroids, endometriosis, uterine or ovarian cysts.
If i were you, i would book an appointment with my doctor and get it checked out.
@JLeslie I am 16 and thank you for you advice, but ibuprofen ever works, I have already tried :/ They don’t seem to be longer than 48 hours cause so far I haven’t had any terrible pain today. The cramps are just to one side for the most part, which is different from every other month i get them. And no I doubt I’m pregnant cause I’m still bleeding, unless thats possible. haha
Yes you can bleed and be pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy in the tube) which can be deadly. But, if the pain goes away in two days, then it isn’t ectopic. However, it is important if you become sexually active to remember that you might not be able to tell if you are just having cramps or an ectopic.
Now, about your cramps being on one side. It is normal to feel “cramps” also called a “ping” on one side midcycle. This is ovulation. Typically it will alternate one side and then the other each month for a few hours. When someone is pregnant, it is common to get a luteal cyst where the egg popped out of the ovary, and it can be painful. But, that would not just last two days.
I think it is worth talking to your doctor next time you see him/her because alternating pain during your period probably has something going on with the ovaries. Maybe they can do an ultrasound while you are cramping, which will be a little uncomfortable.
@JLeslie thank you very much! The cramps have stopped now, but they were bad enough that I am going to go into the doctor and try to see if I can get some medication so they aren’t so bad next time, probably birth control! Thank you again!
