Do you ever wonder if you're really worth it?

Asked by Jude (32204points) March 30th, 2011

I am going through a depression, right now. Just started with therapy.

That you matter to anyone?

I would say you matter a ton to me. I think of you as my little sister.

Of course many of us have had that feeling, but try to hold on to the thought of all the people – N., sister, niece, father, students and Jellies who love and value you. It gets better!

Often. I was feeling that way just last night in fact. I cried for hours. It’s one of the shittiest feelings in the world.

Less and less wondering now as I realize that we’re all worth it.

Constantly and consistently. I agree with @Leanne1986 – it is one of the shittiest feelings in the world.

It matters most that you matter to you….the rest will fall into place if you do. Give yourself a big hug! Smile while you are at it!

I’m worth it to me & that’s all that matters…... :-/

You mean a lot to me, too, @lucillelucillelucille .

Supacase's avatar

I do. In fact, I’ve been feeling that way for the past several days – almost to the point of not mattering, but wishing me gone. It feels like no one in my house gives a shit about me lately.

I generally don’t wonder that, no. It’s how I know I’m not in depression. You have to understand that you feeling this way is because you are depressed and not because it’s actually true.

You, my dear Jude, are so worth it. You are loving, kind, passionate, warm and caring. You have a wonderful girlfriend who loves you, family members who love you, a horde of Fluther friends who love you. Just warm yourself in all of that. All those people think you are worth knowing.

LuckyGuy's avatar

Of course you matter! You taught me about sling back shoes! ;-)
Thank you!

All the time…

I used to feel this way. Hang in there; you’ll get to the point where you feel better about yourself. In the meantime, know that we all think you’re worth it.

I suffer from PSTD so I feel that way all the time. Try to keep in mind though as I try to that Depression is a lying deceitful bitch and anytime you feel helpless, hopeless and pointless, remember that those feelings are the distorted lies that it tells. Don’t believe them.

I’m glad to hear that you’re in therapy, because a good therapist can definitely give you a better perspective of what’s going on inside your head. Also keep in mind that your friends and family can also be excellent resources if you need a dose of perspective as well. We’re all here for you, if you need us.

I know its tough but hang in there. Sending you my best wishes and a big hug…

I know I’m not worth it. No one is. The trick is to accept that truth and learn how to face the nothingness anyway. If you are truly insignificant then all you are and ever will be is what you do each and every moment, then life is the only thing that is significant and we should enjoy it as much as we can.

Of course, this comes from a depressive existentialist.

C and I were talking the other day and I told her that it is a strange world where my best friend is someone I never met. She said, at least I have a best friend. If nothing, you make my life a more tolerable place.

Jude's avatar

@tinyfaery I wish that I could give you a hug.

Jude's avatar

@R, I care about you more than you know.

tinyfaery's avatar

My whisper isn’t working. Nevermind.

filmfann's avatar

I have no doubt that I don’t deserve all the blessings I have, including my family and friends.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

No. When I’ve been in that spot of depression then my frustration has been I’m not exposed enough to get the results I feel I deserve for whatever it is that’s bugging me.
