No, I don’t believe any gem stones have special powers, regardless of when you were born. However, since I was born in April and one of my birthstones is the diamond, I don’t let my husband know I have no belief in birthstones. If it is sparkly, I like it!

I had no idea there was supposed to be meaning behind it.
My birthstone is the peridot. My grandmother always had a beautiful peridot pendant that she wore almost daily, and was adamant that I receive it when she passed away. That necklace was stolen/lost while she was in the hospital right before she passed. Doesn’t seem very much like a “blessing” to me.

No, that stuff is just bullshit

I think some of them are pretty, though.

Pretty, yes (mine is peridot, too @ANef_is_Enuf). Powerful, no.

I think that things like birth stones and horoscopes are appealing because people love analyzing themselves and it makes them feel special. “I’m a virgo! That means I’m determined, loquacious, and creative.” “I’m a scorpio! That means I’m resolute, chatty, and inventive.” Same with birthstones. They can be pretty (mine is opal), but they aren’t meaningful.

Nope; it’s not real.

Lobbing one from a catapult aimed at wal-mart patrons….....now there’s a blessing. Oh joy, rapture!

I put as much stock into stones as I put into horoscopes and psychics. Which is none.

@ucme Wow, I hate Walmart! And love catapults! The perfect marriage!

@cockswain It’s a hobby!

Have you seen peopleofwalmart.com ? Are there such creatures in the UK?

ucme's avatar

Yes & oh yes! I like to refer to them as peasants.

Even the spandex violations? I was hoping the climate might be too cool for that.

Well there is that distinction, it’s true. The folk i’m on about utilise “sprayed on” leggings together with the “this shirt’s not too small for me” look. Delightful…..not!

Interesting how this phenomena knows no borders.

They don’t have any intrinsic “meaning” or “power,” they’re just pretty. Mine is the blue sapphire and I have several pieces of jewelry containing sapphires that I love. I also love my state flower, the golden poppy because they are so pretty. They’ve been coming up all over the hillsides this week. Also I love California Redwoods because they are our state tree.

I always keep a quartz crystal in my home. I think there is something about them. After all, without quartz there would be no clocks or computers (as far as I know). I think they might store energies or something. If you want to learn more you should read up on the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull. ( weird clear quartz crystal carved perfectly into the shape of a skull found in the mayan pyramids and they are not sure how it was made)

Aggh! I am now scrubbing my eyeballs to remove those images. Ty@cockswain (NOT). What on earth would possess people to leave the house like that? In fact, just what would possess them? All that was missing was the banjos… and yes, I am sure here in Australia there are similar aberrations. Especially involving spandex (which should be banned because of its potential for misuse).

To get back on topic, crystals and gems will not help those ‘People of Walmart’.
