Do you think the criminals are given a fair chance?

Yea, for some reason criminals had more rights than victims, and maybe still do, in the justice system for a long time because of laws like due process.
The biggest problem with our justice system today is that its more a “lock-them-away-and-that’ll-teach-them” method than a rehabilitation method. If you take a guy who dropped out of high school and made his living off of burglarizing or something, throw him in jail for five years, then let him out with a couple hundred bucks, nowhere to go, no job, and still no education….. what do you think he’s going to do?
The old “get tough on crime” mantra has caused far more harm to our justice system than good. Every time a politician is elected with that as a platform, the people working in our prisons cringe.
I’m with @tedd I think a lot more has to be done to help prisoners rehabilitate, unfortunately I imagine the majority think that they should just be locked up for the rest of their days (perhaps) but I thoroughly believe we all should be given another chance…we all make mistakes but we have to be given the physical, psychological, mental and emotional tools in order to prevent making those same mistakes again…the prison and parole system (from what I understand) doesn’t do this… or at least nowhere near enough. It’s something I’m very interested in though so will find out more and return…
