I’ve bought and returned two different devices: a case to make that hard drive external, and this other thing that simply attached to it and connected to the computer via USB. They were both too small. I was hoping someone on here may know what I need because no one at Best Buy seems to know.

The drive says it’s SATA, but it looks almost like it has some kind of adapter on the back. Is that an adapter of some kind on the connector or are my eyes all wonky?

@mrentropy :: Is right. I missed the second pic. Those are not normal SATA ports. Can you pull the part on the back off?

@math_nerd I’ll see if it’s possible to take the other case off and get back to you. Thanks :)

Did this happen to come from a Apple laptop?

Here is the drive and what the SATA ports should look like

It looks like an IDE adapter is attached to the sata bit. Hopefully it should just pull off. Don’t open the HDD case.

I didn’t open it, yet, so I won’t. @math_nerd It came from an older HP laptop. It’s about 2 years old.

I think this is the adaptor. I just replaced the hard drive on my HP laptop, and it had one these stuck onto a normal hard drive – SATA HDD CONNECTOR FR Compaq Presario V2000 V2100 V2200
