Anything by Of Montreal.
Anything by Parts and Labor.
I know of plenty more, if you’re interested.
My favorite indie rock is from the 90s, when indie rock was truly indie rock. So let me know if you want some suggestions from then, or if you’re only interested in this faux-indie age.
I know very little about this band called Atomship, but if the rest of their music is like Pencil Fight, there is a winner for you.
Plans by Death Cab for Cutie
Oh, Inverted World, Chutes Too Narrow, and Wincing the Night Away by The Shins
Pretty much anything by They Might Be Giants (though they lean more towards alt. rock or geek rock)
Everything All the Time and Infinite Arms are wonderful albums by the group Band of Horses
I was recently introduced to this Andrew Bird veck’s music, it’s mostly an amalgamation of jazz, classical, pop and rock, I guess, haven’t listened to it enough to render much more than that. But he is fantastic.
Definitely look up these bands (sorry, I don’t really pay attention to all of the albums.)
Bon Iver
David Ford
The Airborne Toxic Event
Taken By Trees
Alan Pownall
Say Hi to Your Mom
Freelance Whales
Band of Horses
Deerhunter
Iron and Wine
Easyworld
Fleet Foxes
The Morning Light
The Mountain Goats It’s kinda indie-ish, but it’s my fave band EVER!
National
Neutral Milk Hotel
Soko Her song “I’ll Kill Her” is pretty sick.
The Sudden Passion
Hoped I could help a little bit. I was actually going to ask this question today :)
@Joker94 – They Might be Giants as indie rock? Maybe once upon a long long time ago…
I’m a huge fan of Canadiennes Tegan and Sara and Feist.
NMH’s “In the Aeroplane over the Sea”.
@Seelix You are probably right, yeah..
Oh, I like The Dears, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Department of Eagles, and so on. @KatetheGreat‘s list is pretty good!
Here’s a site (that isn’t Pitchfork) with news about the latest bands and albums.
Ohhhh ohh ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! I forgot to add something.
Blalock’s Indie Rock Playlist is amazing. They have lists upon lists of indie bands and they let out a huge playlist that you can download every month for FREE!
I’m not sure if this is your kind of indie, but I like the album Horehound by The Dead Weather. this is one of my favorites.
