@jonsblond: I actually own The Road. I think it’s one of Viggo Mortensen’s best pieces of acting.
Day 1 The only movie I went to see last year that I liked was The Back Up Plan, I really didn’t see many movies last year unless they were for kids.
Did not see Inception or The King’s Speech, I guess I will see them this year.
@KatawaGrey I agree with you. I can’t remember what movie channel has been playing it, but I watch it every time it comes on. and I always tear up at the end.
Day 01. This is hard. I watched 166 movies in 2010, and 30 so far in 2011. A lot of them were really good… The last time I did this meme, I picked District 9 for this, so I’m going to discount everything on the list before that. So I choose…

Day Two: “The Station Agent” A quiet movie with a big emotional impact. I loved every moment of it.
Day 2: I’m going with The English Patient, again, for I’ve yet to find someone else who truly enjoyed it

Day 2— How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. It was one of those ones that caught my eye because of the title, and it ended up being well worth seeing.

I don’t think The Thing would have been as scary as it was without Ennio Morricone’s original soundtrack. That music gives me chills!

Day 11. Good Night, and Good Luck (2005) changed my opinion about George Clooney. Before this movie, I was not a fan. I thought he was overrated as an actor and I didn’t think he was that cute, either. But then I saw Good Night, and Good Luck and it all clicked. I jumped aboard the bandwagon and I’m never gettin’ off.

16: Replaces the word hate with “find boring”. Jaws/Star Wars
Day 16. “Hate” is a strong word but I think Donnie Darko (2001) is the movie about which my opinion has changed the most in that direction.
Day 16: I agree, hate is a strong word. I watched Suburbia religiously as a young teen when I discovered Flea and the punk scene. I tried watching this movie again maybe 10 years ago and I didn’t find it as interesting as I did when I was younger. I turned the movie off half-way through.
Day 16 – I have wracked my brains and I cannot think of a movie that I used to love that I hate now, but when I first saw Speed, I thought it was awesome, but now it holds zero interest for me.
Day 16 – Natural Born Killers
@ladymia69 The movie made in 1983. Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers was in it. I haven’t seen the other movie you mentioned.
Day 16 – The closest I can come to is Breaking The Waves, directed by Lars von Trier. I don’t hate it, but I’ve given it the hairy eyeball.
I was originally quite awed with the “rawness” of Emily Watson’s character. Now that’I’m older, I think von Trier’ “breakthrough” work is just an upscale, art film, Dogma ‘95 version of a Lifetime movie with an indie pop soundtrack. All his lead women characters are in jeopardy, come to bad ends and can never find any way to save themselves from their horrible fates. Bleah.

17: Valkyrie…..I lapsed into a slumber on more than one occasion.
Day 17 – I got 4:
Fame. I wasn’t allowed to see it as a kid. When I finally did at 19, I thought it was corny, and the scene where the skeezoid assaults Coco seemed like it was dumped in from another movie.
Say Anything. All my friends to this day think that Lloyd Dobbler is a romantic hero, because when the movie came out, we were all 17 years old or thereabouts. I didn’t see it upon its release, but I did as an adult and found Dobbler to be a creepy, lazy, self-righteous stalker. And the girl was insipid.
Star Wars. I grew up in a poor household, and there was no money for going to the movies or buying a VCR, and due to a lot of previously spoken about shenanigans, I wasn’t allowed to visit friends, so I didn’t see Star Wars as a kid. I was 8 when the first one was released. As I got older, I wasn’t interested; it seemed nerdy. Then at 37, a friend said to me, “Look, you can’t go through life and not have seen this series,” so she got me DVDs of “4”, “5” and “6”. Meh.
Dirty Dancing. Another wish fulfillment movie released during my adolescence that I didn’t see until I was an adult and thought, Eh. I’ve seen better.
Day 17 A Series of Unfortunate Events
It was NOTHING like the movie. The actors were great, but the way they screwed up the plot was unforgivable. The movie was a terrible representation of the books.
DAY 17: Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. What a major, honking disappointment. What a major, honking waste of time and resources. What a major, honking waste of a good back story!
Day 17: same answer as @GoJessGo. I really looked forward to this movie thinking how great it could be with the resources available now for special effects. Didn’t help the movie at all. Major disappointment.

Day 17. Brokeback Mountain (2005). Everyone I knew talked about how it made them sob but I was utterly unmoved by story, characters, setting, music … everything.

Day 18: Escanaba in da Moonlight It’s a film written and directed by Jeff Daniels. I find this movie hilarious. It’s a movie you’ll either love or hate. I loved it.

Day 22 – Ooh, tough one. There’s so many! The first one that popped in my mind is Standing in the Shadows of Motown about The Funk Brothers, which is the nickname of the session musicians during Motown’s heyday in the 1960s.
Day 23 Either Cars or Beauty and the Beast
23: Toss up between Finding Nemo/Toy Story/Despicable Me.
Day 23 – This is the hardest, by far. My favorite animations change by the day. I think the one that is on top the most is Monsters Inc. though. I think that movie has the bext scene in any movie: the scene in the door factory.
Day 23. I wanted to list something pretentious and/or foreign and/or artsy-fartsy, but … if I’m honest, The Lion King (1994) is my favorite animated movie. It’s the one that got me into the technical side of movies and started me on the path to being the film geek I am now. Also, there are lions. And a meerkat in drag.

Day 24 – A movie of my favorite book, Sabriel. I’m hoping to write the script soon, actually, so maybe this one will become a reality.

24: Live action/big sceen version of Wacky Races….bring it on!
Day 24 – A movie, with tones of “Kill Bill” and “I Spit on your grave”, about a woman who hunts down and kills poachers on her own, for no one, and only because she feels it is right. This would make an excellent miniseries.
Of course, she would eventually get to the people who order the poachings and profit from them, and she would give them a taste of their own medicine.
Day 24. It’s all been done. The only thing left is to find a spin people haven’t seen so many times that they’re sick of it already.

Day 28. This is hard. There are a handful of directors that I love so much that I can’t pick a favorite. So I picked my favorite movie by each one, and then chose my favorite movie out of those. I came up with Guillermo del Toro’s The Devil’s Backbone (2001).

I would just like to say that my actual favorite movie by my actual favorite director is also my favorite movie of all time so I wanted to save that for the last day. I gave my next favorite director and the favorite movie of his. :)
Day 29— Annie. I was 11 when this movie came out and I watched it in the theater. I went with my best friend just before she was going to move to Utah. I loved the movie, and it holds a special place in my heart. I was also a big fan of Carol Burnett at the time since my parents liked to watch her show on television.
Day 29. The Last Unicorn (1982). To this day I can watch it over and over and over and over without ever tiring of it.
Ralph Bakshi’s version of The Hobbit. I saw it on TV. I might have to find a DVD and see how I feel about it now.

You know, I’m not really a big fan of game threads, but this one was great. Once a day, you could come back and add a new answer and read others’ answers and the main feed wasn’t clogged up with a new game question every day and, quite frankly, I like that it was the few of us who saw it within the first few days. :)
